there was a guy with a chronograph at the range today, he was kind enough to take a reading on the georgia arms .32 h&r mag coming out of my 332, (2.5" barrel)

results,,,

977 fps,,, and i'm going to say that was about 10 feet from the end of the muzzle

now what was that formula to figure ft-lbs?? 85 gr @977 = ??

its not that i'm no good at math, its not being able to remember all the cursed formulas that gets me all messed up...

:rolleyes:

:D

oops,,,

the georgia arms .32 h&r magnum round is 100 gr SJHP

not 85 gr

i think that puts us closer to 200 ft-lbs?

IIRC i had it at around 210 ft-lbs at the advertised 1100 FPS

i was thinking of the federal jhp, THAT one is 85 and recoils with significantly less force than the georgia arms BTW,

i didnt have any federal with me at the time, i'll try to remember to pack some with me from now on and hope i get another chance

100grains at basically 1,000fps isn't half bad. On par with most 38 and actually into 38+P territory.

Those loads are almost certainly more effective than 148grain target wadcutter 38, which is what the very recoil-shy tend to shoot in snubs.

They're probably not QUITE as good as the very best 38+P "snubbie loads" but they won't be too far off. And there's six of 'em :D.

to quote someone,,,

i let shoot it at the range,,,

"i wouldn't want to get shot with it"

and yes, there IS six...thats what sold me on it

:D

i wouldnt trust those federals in it though, not nearly as much wack...

:uhoh:

To determine the KE in ft-lb, use the bullet velocity in thousands of fps and mass in grains:

KE = 2.216 X (bullet mass) X ( velocity)squared

Example: m = 85 gr, v = 977fps

KE = 2.216 X (85) X (.977)(.977) = 179.8 ft-lb

As one who is not overly fond of recoil but likes snubbies a whole lot, I'd really like some subjective comparisons of the .32 H&R Mag recoil out of this gun, both hot JHP and standard loadings, compared to some other things like a Kahr k9, .38 S&W models, etc. Thanks!

i would compare the federal jhp's to a .38 snubbie in steel, it puts the recoil more to the wrists than the arms though. its a little snappier

the recoil is somewhat sharper with the georgia arms round i mention,

actually it wasnt all that noticeable until i went BACK to the federals after shooting the georgias for a while, then the federals felt much milder.

its much more manageable than the light weight .38 and definitely much more managable than the lightweight .357 s&w is offering (360 pd?) both of those want to launch the gun into orbit so i find it takes a while to recover for a good second shot

there are those who will disagree with me, but thats ok...

fwiw ive launched a bag of 50 in the georgia round one handed during a few different sessions and found it fairly comfortable while doing so

no ill after effects, the gooey grip helps absorb it a little, i think maybe i recall a little irritation to my trigger finger but no wrist soreness,,,

so it is fun to shoot as well as a good ccw imho
