When I go to disassemble the Ruger lc9, the slide pin is held in place by a push-down lever on the left side. This lever is REALLY hard to push down. After that, you have to use the stupid little key and align the slide to the hole to push it out but other than that it's OK. Is is anybody else having this situation? I tried a pencil (flat unsharpened end and the eraser), then an unclicked ball point pen - nothing. I could only get traction with a miniature box cutter with the blade sheathed due to the slit for the blade able to catch on the lc9's little lever. SURELY this isn't normal ... ???

The lever on mine clicks down quite easily, just a little push with my thumbnail.

Mine is rather easy too. Take it back where you got it and have it looked at or call Ruger.

On Ruger Forum, several similar posts I see today - must be pretty common and some say it loosens up over time so I guess I'll just wait and see before going to a lot of trouble. Some also said that their pin just falls out after the pin release is pushed down so maybe tighter is better LOL. Mine got tighter from the first time to the third time so I guess we'll just wait and see. Already marred the polymer with the rubber pencil eraser (you wouldn't think that would happen, but it did). Anybody know how to get that "streak" off of polymer?

Mine is no problem.
From day one it was never necessary to push out the pin (on mine). After lowering the door the pin falls out when the gun is turned on it's side and the slide is moved slightly.

BTW I have over 1,500 trouble free rounds of mixed ammo through my LC9 and use it for my primary pocket carry gun.

Mine required an assistant every time. I took care not to mar the plastic or the slide. It didn't loosen up much after 300rd and a dozen cleaning sessions. Other than the stiff trap door it was a pleasure to break down. My slide pin would pop out with a light palm tap.

Thanks for the replies, useful info. Called Ruger CS, they were super nice - said should drop down more easily than having to use a tool AND hit the tool - offered me a return for repair but I'm going to see if it loosens up next couple of times. So, if you have a tight slide drop lever guess consider sending it back to Ruger. An inconvenience but this is otherwise a great little gun. I definitely will be keeping it.
