By the way, the LC9S comes with an orange plastic dummy mag which I don't think holds the slide open. Good for dry firing.

I can understand those who might want the LC9s without the manual safety and magazine disconnector. Its simpler and with fewer controls to operate.

I have seen at least one youtube video showing how to remove the mag safety on an LC9s. I would not do it as I don't see how it matters all that much, plus I am reluctant to do such things on a gun that I might be carrying for self defense purposes. It might have some kind of negative unintended consequence that I might well not appreciate.

As for the manual safety, I am ambivalent about it as well. I don't think there is any extra danger of malfunction or unintentional discharge over having the pro model, versus just not using the manual safety on the regular model, but I do not know that with any degree of certainty.

My personal opinion of firearms without manual safeties is that they are somewhat more likely to be involved in cases of unintentional discharge than those with manual safeties. But, I have no statistics to back up that belief. And I doubt any reliable statistics of that nature actually exist.

It seems to me that if you are going to carry a firearm for self defense you should practice with it enough that you will be able to use it effectively. If it has a manual safety part of using it effectively is disengaging the safety before operating the bang stick.

I chose the pro model because I have a lifelong tendency to forget to take the safety off on firearms. Be it pistols, rifles, or shotguns. I have no problem remembering to put it on, but I’ve pulled up to shoot about 500 times and forgotten to disengage the safety. It’s my fault not the equipment, but I figure if I’ve not gotten over it in 20 years of shooting I’m not likely to ever get over it. For that reason I choose a carry pistol with a double action trigger and no safety. Works great for me, may not be right for you.
