I didn't know the Ruger came with the recommendation to use high-velocity ammunition.
I stand corrected, just looked it up and no ,it says any ammo Usa specs.. Must have seen that from a YOUTUBE vid. That said, I would like to see more reports with it shooting standard ammo.I would be interested in the Pistol only as a trainer.

If I wanted a self defense load for a 22 it would be 40gr mini mags. They are the most reliable round in all my 22s.
This. It's all I use in "self-defense" style .22 pistols (as opposed to target pistols). Absolutely reliable, which is the real challenge with .22 rimfire ammunition.

ALL rimfire ammunition will have this issue. Higher quality ammo from reputable makers will fail to fire much less often. Can't recall a failure in a Mini Mag happening to me...yet.
I know, I'm a big fan of the 40gr Mini Mags, but I just happened to have a dud the other day. Really surprised me. Put it back in the mag oriented for the firing pin to hit it on the other side and it went bang. Must have hit a void in the priming compound.

I would not use Stingers or any other HYPER-velocity .22s in and semi-auto pistols. Stick with HV or Standard loads (40 Mini-Mags) and most will shoot all day long.
