I just purchased a Walther P22 for some "cheaper" target shooting and may carry it this summer while jogging or hiking. I bought some CCI .22 LR Mini Mag HP's. I was thinking of trying out some Stingers by CCI, but it seems I read somewhere where Stingers weren't a good idea to use in a semi-auto. Something to do with "over heating"??? Or somethin' like that.

I haven't had a chance to get to the range yet with this pistol, but am practically frothing at the mouth in anticipation of firing it. Any help on choices of ammo to use with this pistol would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wolf is all that i shoot in my target 22lr, they have a wax like coating on the nose of the bullet, this helps with FTF in 22 autos..

Another good choice is winchester wildcats they also have the wax coating on the lead....much cheaper the Wolf match grade...but not as accurate as Wolf also.

Hope this helps :)

I used some remmington's I had in my walther and jammed every 3rd or 4th shot. I switched to CCI's and haven't jammed since. Now I need to find some CCI hollowpoints. The copper-plated ones go right through rabbits and such, taking three or four shots to put them down. Maybe the lead ones will do better.

CCI stingers are great for the p22 and they are hollow point...4 hundred rounds so far not one jam

P22's seem to be highly variable on their choice of diets, some will only run on hi-vel stuff, some eat anything, others are in between.

Mine likes hot stuff - MiniMags, Stingers, Velocitors, Winchester Super-X & the like. It seems to be getting more tolerant of less speedy stuff with age (OK for plinking), but for full reliability, I'd stick with premium Hi-velocity stuff (it's not like it's expensive compared to centerfire anything).

I run cheap bulk ammo through mine. My buddy does to. No problems at all with them. Today just for the fun of it, I burned through 2 full mags as fast as I could pull the trigger and not one issue. This was with Federal Champions in a bulk box. My buddy did it with the Remington bulk box he had gotten at Wally World.

My P22 shoots everything I put in it from high dollar to walmart special. Personally I run Remington Subsonic's through it most of the time because I have a suppressor and like to be as quite as I can, otherwise anything that is at hand will do.

For cheap stuff, Remington Golden Bullets in the bulk pack are great. Stay AWAY from Remington Thunderbolt. They lead up the barrel like crazy. CCI Stingers are great for the "expensive" rounds. THe P-22 is a great gun, very fun, but you need to test you ammo a lot. Some works great, some just won't work at all.
