I'd only seen 'em in the shops, not really messed with 'em much. Buddy came down from Waco for a goose hunt and he has a new LCP. I've been interested in getting one, or a new Taurus TCP, and as we were lookin' it over and chatting, I went and got my old Grendel to compare to it for size. Now, I don't carry or shoot this Grendel a lot. It is a P12, 11 shot double stack magazines, DAO, similar to the P11. It's a blow back. It has off hand paper plate at 25 yards accuracy and is 100 percent reliable and I have carried it off and on over the years when I wanted to be real discrete and dress required. It's not one of my faves, but it has filled the niche.
Well, laying the LCP over the top of the Grendel, I was amazed. Just lookin' at one and going and looking at the other, the LCP would seem to be a lot smaller. BUT, it's the exact same length and height. The only difference is, the Grendel being a double stack, it's 1" wide, considerably wider than the LCP. But, you have 12 rounds as the trade off. It's a few ounces heavier at 12 ounces unloaded, not exactly a cinder block in the pocket by any means.
The Grendel's trigger is pretty sucky, but I've adapted and shoot it okay. I do like the wider grip in my hands, much more comfy and, though I haven't shot the LCP, the Grendel's recoil is quite mild. I'd THINK it might be a bit easier on the hand being wider in the palm of the hand. I also prefer its heal clip mag release for a pure pocket gun, near impossible to release the mag accidentally even by sitting on it in a back pocket.
I'm now thinkin' maybe I don't really NEED one of the new gen .380s. I don't know, I'm still tempted, but there might be something else I'd feel better spending 300 bucks on. I really don't have any wants right now, just sayin'. I'd THOUGHT I wanted a new .380, but......... :banghead:
