LCP Max Pocket Holster

Not long ago I acquired a Ruger LCP Max for back-up carry, and primarily, for LH pocket carry while driving.

The gun came with an ambidextrous fabric pocket holster that fit well.

On several occasions, the magazine has popped loose while the gun was in my pocket. Turns out that the seam of the holster sits on the button.

Not good.

I just ordered a left hand Vedder kydex holster.

If anyone has anu info or experience on this, let me know. Thanks in advance.

I prefer an Alabama kydex pocket holster. You have to request that they cover the release but there’s no up charge for it. My Vedder often comes out with the gun on the draw whereas my Alabama stays put every time.

I have used an Alabama Pocket Holster and a few others that were originally for my LCPII, and the Max fits perfectly.

Only one that doesn’t “crossover” is a BORAII trigger guard holster.

I had my magazine released a few times, and then reversed the release. The curve of the Alabama Holster protects it from engaging. But I can see where that is a problem with the provided holster. My DeSantis pocket holster doesn’t have that problem.

Here are some of my DeSantis Pocket holsters , Nemesis or Superfly, with the LCP Max. I have pocket carried for a long time, and with a lot of different handguns.

I have the "Nemesis" model for my Ruger LCP and have been disappointed with it. Most of the time, the holster comes right out with the pistol when drawing from most any pocket.

Yeah, I don’t rely on what the packages say. I want see how it fits first. I’m from Missouri, you have to show me! I have ordered too many holsters that are made for a model and no way they fit it.

I have a few more Nemesis for pistols with laser or light mounted. I have an Armalaser TR12G on the way, so will haul out the tote once more and see what fits. But have an Alabama Pocket coming to fit the laser so just have to wait and make do.

Here's an update on the LCP Max holster issue.

First, for those who use the holster that comes with the gun, I have found that, if the pistol is inserted into the holster with minimal force, the tension of the seam apparently does not put as much force on the magazine release, and the tendency to release the magazine is reduced. Also, I check the magazine frequently.

The holster from Vedder has arrived. It is excellent--but it is barely functional in cargo pockets, for which most pocket holsters are really not intended. The hook does not keep the holster in a pocket holster. That should have been obvious to me. I can release the .tension that holds the gun by pushing on the kydex with my thumb but that is tedious and slow. Videos show that the model with the thumb tab is easier, and I am returning mine for that model. The holster is fine for front pockets, but I cannot carry the gun that way while strapped into the driver seat. It may work with a sport jacket or vest.

Crossbreed makes a holster specifically for cargo pocket carry. The leather piece has backing on it that is intended to increase the coefficient of friction between the holster and the pocket. I have ordered one. We'll see.

All your issues is exactly why I make my own things. Not trying to grill you for buying, but I decided that I didn't wanna have a holster drawer. Everything I've made works well , because it's all been designed for that specific purpose.

Left hand is one problem.
I thought to carry my Keltec .32 in my left front pocket a la Bill Jordan.
I found I was getting a finger across the magazine catch on the draw, so I don't do that.

I think a pocket pistol would be better off with a heel catch. Like Mr Browning used. Not like I will be shooting USPSA with one and having to make a speed reload.

I carry my LCP 2 in a Remora or a Desantis. No issues. You can also carry in your waist band. In the pocket it does not come out when drawing.

I just ordered a left hand Vedder kydex holster.

I think it should work well for you. Vedder is a well regarded brand, so the quality will be acceptable. But more importantly, it seems intuitively that a soft holster would be more comfortable in a pocket, but I never felt any difference. I switched to kydex pocket holsters and never looked back. No more loss of retention and popped magazines.

I have the same problem ( holster wants to come out of pocket with the pistol ) I carry a LCP 380 or LCP, bouth have laser's. I have practiced drawing by use my index finger to push the holster down while bringing the pistol up and out of my pocket! Works for me.

My Crossbreed Pocket Rocket Holster has arrived. I ordered a left hand draw model.

Oddly, and I did not know this, the holster is designed to be carried with the leather piece facing away from the body. That means that the exposed part of the grip of the pistol cannot be grasped with the fingers of the drawing hand. Rather, one inserts one's fingers between the leather and the pistol. I had not understood that.

The purpose of that is to keep the gun from printing. It does do that.

Some of their customers use right hand holsters for LH pocket carry.

I can exchange it or keep it. I'll try it for a few days.

The young lady on customer service line really knew her stuff.

The kydex holds the pistol safely and securely, and the holster stays in the pocket on the draw. due to the rough baking on the leather.

I have been a Crossbreed fan for years.

I tried this a few years back with my KelTec P3AT and four pocket holsters. I found that the wallet-like holsters, like the DeSantis Trickster and the Blackhawk Nylon ambi model stayed in the pocket every time when I drew the gun. The other two which had a hook shaped bottom on them, would always come out of the pocket with the gun, except when I made a concerted effort to push the hook into the rear seam of the pocket when I started my draw. If I did this, the holster stayed in the pocket.

The replacement Vedder pocket holster with the thumb tab has arrived. It differs from the first one in that it has a little extension on the rear near the top for pushing against when drawing. Helps a lot in keeping the holster from coming out with the gun. I'm trying it out now.

I have a Stoner Pocket Holster for my LCP. It is leather. It has held up well for over 5 years. It has worked well for me. I’d buy it again.

I've been carrying with the included pocket holster. Several hours a day in my sweatpants pocket for a couple of weeks.

In that time the holster is forming to the gun. It is not squeezing the gun anymore as it formed around the edges and curves. The Max now releases easier from the holster. It also drops into the holster easy, as the holster now has an open mouth like a regular holster.

I have not had an issue with mag dropping, but I do see that the seam is on the mag release.

It's not perfect, where the holster stays in the pocket every time regardless of technique but with proper technique it does stay every time.

I can now get a grip on the the gun and push the holster free with flick or push of my middle finger and the gun will come out easily and leave the holster behind.

This is exactly why I have a preference (when available) for semi-auto carry weapons, especially pocket guns, that feature a stiff heel mag release:

I feel it is a feature who's positive characteristics are sacrificed on the alter of tacticool mag changes.

What is more likely as an everyday citizen who carries- needing that extra mag NOW, or having accidentally activated your fancy high-speed extended mag release button prior to or during an encounter and being left with a awkward single-shot pistol?

I picked up an LCP Max last week. I don't much care for the pocket holster that came with the LCP Max. I like something a little more rigid and with better retention, and I didn't like how the mag release is on the seam. Also I use my middle finger to push the holster down and away from the gun as I draw, and the soft factory holster didn't work well with that. I've carried a P3AT in a Desantis Nemesis for about 12 years, so at first I was just going to order one of those (I still may)
But I dabble in holster making and had materials laying around, so I decided to make a quick pocket holster out of leather, based on the Nemesis design. I wet molded it to the LCP Max for positive retention, with a dowel in place to make a groove for the front sight. I sewed an extra piece on the outside to make it wider under the trigger guard where my finger pushes down to draw. I still need to do the finish work, but I've carried it around the house/yard and I like it a lot so far. The retention is great, it carries well and stays in place in my pocket, and holds shape for re-holstering. I still have to thoroughly vet the gun before I start carrying it, but I think this holster will work well.
