Lcp sized 9mm?

I would strongly recommend the DoubleTap defense in 9mm.

Statistically speaking, the odds of needing more than 2 shots in SD are low. I believe the FBI did a study were the average rounds fired in a defensive shooting was 3 shots, so in a way "2 out of 3 ain't bad" as it were. Honestly is someone is still postured to fight after absorbing two 9mm 147 gr. +P+ loads to center mass it's time to beat feet anyhow and egress the DA (danger area).

Nothing in it's class is smaller. If you're worried about reloads for more ammo, DoubleTap sells two-round speed strips than can be stored in the gun's grip area and can be used to execute a rapid reload of the gun and have it back in action in a couple of second with practice. Weight is just 15 oz and with a pricetag of $499 it is a steal IMHO.

What is the fascination with pocket carry? I miss the benefits it presents. It's convenient in that you don't need to put a holster on a belt? Beyond that, it tends to be slower to draw from a pants pocket. Pants that aren't overly baggy often print a bit (also part of the problem with a slow draw). You typically have to readjust your grip from the grab to firing. And at the end of the day, you limit yourself to a .380 sized gun or one that's brutally expensive and brutally unpleasant to shoot. A PF-9 on a decent belt holster seems like such a better idea.

Kokapelli, I agree with you, the Rohrbaugh R9 does not have a better reliability record than many other guns. In fact , for the amount that one pays for this pistol it should be far more reliable with a wide variety of ammo. Same can be said of the Seecamp guns as well. The R380 is somewhat better in this regard. That said, people who buy these guns are buying into a highly finished pistol that is beautiful in appearance much like the Cadillac Car is with no more performance and reliability than a Chevrolet.

Wiley Clapp, a well known gun writer for many years visited Mr. Rohrbaugh and asked him about his high prices and he responded by saying, " I sell every Pistol I make". That is the bottom line. People will pay more for a beautiful pistol even if it has drawbacks, like changing the spring every 200 rounds, and the notion that "it should be shot little and carry a lot". Also it is very ammo sensitive .In most pistols those things would kill it in the marketplace, but because it is beautiful to people , it sells in spite of these issues.

I was very excited when I heard about the DoubleTap... it sounded great - a ball bearing system that was going to make for a smooth trigger and all that.

I actually tried the trigger on one and found it to be heavy, gritty, jerky and just generally bad.

If you a really sold on the 45 ACP for self defense and won't use any other caliber then the DoubleTap does offer the smallest lightweight 45 gun available.

But in 9mm, it is very close to existing 9mm semi-autos

DoupleTap Defense DoubleTap
Caliber:9mm (also .45 ACP)
Barrel: 3.0in
Length: 5.5in
Height: 3.9in
Weight: 13 oz. or 15 oz (Titanium)
Capacity:2

Rohrbaugh R9
Caliber:9mm
Barrel:2.9in
Length:5.2in
Height:3.7in
Weight:13.5oz
Capacity:6+1 Rounds

Comparing the Rohrbaugh to the DoubleTap, the size and weight is close, but again, with the semi-auto, you have 5 more rounds.

The DoubleTap Defense had a problem, at least in the 45 chambering where if you shot the bottom barrel first, the recoil from the first shot caused the firing pin to bounce in the top chamber - resulting in a double ignition:

I hope they fixed that but I haven't heard that they did.

I also thought I saw one in Gander Mountain that said standard pressure only? I could be wrong about it not taking +P

A 2 shot gun as a primary?
That's horrible advice when there's 6+1 .380s with smaller footprints.
Hell, I'd rather carry a beretta bobcat.
