Is it possible or does it exist a gun that is the lcp form factor in a 9mm caliber?

I found the rohrbaugh r9 as an option and am looking at reviews but upon first glance it looks expensive. EDIT Suspicions were spot on.. I couldn't find one under 1000 :what:.

I carry a P3AT in my pocket and want a similar sized gun in 9mm to consolidate calibers(I cast/reload 9mm).

Don't say LC9 or Pf9.

I have owned a PF9 and it is not as close as you might think. A P3AT disapears in the pocket of any pants I can think of. A PF9 is IMO more cargo pants category.

Rohrbaugh R9 VS P3AT

Anything out there compare the Rohrbaugh R9 in size but cheaper?

If not(and I suspect so) why aren't companies onboard?

Because 9mm in that size and weight gun is most unpleasant to shoot, has poor longevity and is slow for follow up shots.

Go to YouTube and look at some of the videos of the R9 and pay attention to the recoil and need to re grip after every shot.

IMO 380 is the practical limit for guns that are P3AT size and weight.

It is also My opinion that the benefit of 9mm vs 380 in short barreled pistols is way over rated.

Good point but like I said it's not .380 vs 9 it's because I cast and reload for 9 and not .380(not interested in doing so either).

Another good point about the recoil.. I'll check that out.

I have shot a amt .45 and it wasn't bad but larger and heavier but I think I could handle a lcp sized gun with standard loads.

You might check the Sig 938. Some friends have them and love them. They are a bit bigger than the LCP and a bit smaller than the LC9.

Here's my P938 I bought yesterday. I was looking for the same gun as you, 9mm pocket pistol. I like that is a SA and is setup just like a 1911. I can drop it right into a pocket and I forget it is even there. Also like the all steel/aluminum construction, it feels like a gun in your hand instead of a plastic toy.

^^ Diamondback DB9. Lighter, thinner, and shorter than a PF9. Because the PF9 is as small as I desire to handle in that caliber (I own one and it does well in my hands, but it is pretty near, if not at, the limit for them.), I have no interest in the DB. But you might.

There are some derringers in 9mm out there. They're no bigger than the LCP. :D

The guy at my LGS tells me that Glock will be coming out with one a little bigger then the G42 in 9mm. I think he is just figuring not that he has any first hand knowledge of it.

I have a DB9 that is about what you are looking for. They had a bad rep at first but the last couple of years they seem to have worked out the kinks. I shoot FMJ and it has been pretty much flawless but it has been a bit finicky with HP. It is heavier than the P3AT when loaded so that is a factor when using pocket carry.
I carry the P3AT, Bodyguard, and DB9 on a regular basis. I wouldn't call any of them a "joy" to shoot but I do shoot them enough to be relatively proficient.

IMO the Rohrbaugh R9 is the best combination of small over-all footprint and light weight.

The DB9 weighs a little bit less, but it is a slightly longer gun, the same can be said of the Kel-Tek PF-9, it weighs less but it is a larger gun.

The Borberg is a slightly shorter gun, but it is heavier than the Rohrbaugh.

Thanks for the help guys. Very good info in here.

That R9 is off the list because of price. I treat my CCW like garbage and would feel like an ass if I mucked up a $1100 gun.

Of those guns I'd have to give the PF9 another try and I know it wouldn't work out. I've stopped dressing around my gun and can't go back to that.

Here's an example of my sometimes stupid behavior in relation to my CCW.

A month ago I wen't saltwater kayak fishing. I have a ocean kayak with scupper holes which lets water in and out with the waves so as you can imagine you get wet.

Fishing the bay in the driving wind and tides after a few hours realize I've been wearing my gun the whole time. And yes it was very wet, came home rusty and been good since a complete breakdown cleaning.

I'd be horrified with anything more than my Keltec and even then didn't feel good about it.

A PF9 is so big you have to dress around it?

In a sense yes.

I can put my P3AT in ANY pocket I own and at worse it looks like a 2nd cell phone.

That means shirtless at the beach, gym shorts, or wearing a suit.

The suit thing Ive noticed females put their hands right there during a hug and with a jacket open or off and shirt tucked in almost impossible to hide and make accessible a IWB setup.

No belly bands, grip digging into my side in the car, etc.

There is no inexpensive 9mm sized the same as the LCP. You will have to compromise in some form.

The P11 is 12+1. Got 3 of 'em. The caveats are heavy DA revolver trigger and you may need to polish the ramp. However, once working it stays working. The only issue I've had with them is pins walking from recoil. Nothing a drop of Loctite won't fix.

I own both a Ruger LCP (virtually identical dimensions to your P3AT) and a Kahr CM9, which is one of the smallest production 9mm pistols currently made. I can give you this bit of wisdom as someone who is 6' tall, slim build, who wears slightly fitted clothing:

On paper, the Kahr is only .16" wider, .25" longer, .40" taller and 6 oz. heavier than the LCP. In a jeans or cargo shorts pocket however, the difference is HUGE!

I've tried pocket carrying an LCP, CM9, S&W 642 revolver and Glock 42. There really is no comparison. The micro .380 guns such as the LCP/P3AT are truly the only comfortable "pocket" gun for me. In a winter coat pocket, all bets are off, and I often carry slightly larger guns.

You'll hear of people who comfortably pocket carry a Glock 26 in their jeans pocket. You'll hear of people who wear a full size all-steel 1911 all day without trouble. For me, an LCP in my front pocket is perfectly comfortable, but anything more pushes the limit. Hey, that's why they make guns in every size, shape, action, color and caliber you can imagine. Different strokes...

Have you tried IWB holster carry on the small (though slightly larger than LCP) 9mm options? What I've found personally is that the PF9 sized gun is extremely easy to belt carry, doesn't print in most any situation, and it is very comfortable to carry. It won't work for carrying shirtless with shorts, but it fits many other situations very well.

It is after all a gun. The slight differences in size of those mentioned, should not make much of a difference, unless one was wearing spandex. having owned and carried most of them, either the PM9 or the shield are excellent guns, and the XDS is the ultimate in size and power.
If you can carry a 45, why carry a 9mm? Over many years of carrying guns, you only feel the difference the first few days, after that a few ounces here or there don't really matter.
When I mentioned I was deciding which gun to carry to a few military types one day before leaving, one said what's to think about, the XDS is a 45.
A spare mag in another pocket or belt, gives you 13 rounds of 45, with a 1 or 2 second mag change, it really behooves you to carry the most gun you can discretely carry comfortably.
The other route is the one with the most rounds, the shield gives you 9 rounds without a reload, that is more than enough to get it done, after having fired 9 rounds, if you are still standing, chances are you are ok.

I believe that Kokapelli gave you the best advice. The vast majority of people cannot shoot a 9mm the size of an LCP effectively. For pocket carry the limit for the majority is the 380 ACP in the LCP size. For up-close encounters , and with proper ammunition, the 380 is enough gun.

On paper, the Kahr is only .16" wider, .25" longer, .40" taller and 6 oz. heavier than the LCP. In a jeans or cargo shorts pocket however, the difference is HUGE!

The specification on Kahr's website for the dimensions of the CM9 /PM9 did not match my own measurements.

Kahr gives the overall length of the CM9 as 5.42” If you measure just the slide from the rear to the muzzle end, the slide is 5.4375” So it is closer to 4.4” than it is to 4.2”. But that isn't really the OAL of the CM9. Putting the gun in a box, and putting the top of the slide against one wall of the box and sliding the gun until the rearmost part of the pistol touches another wall of the box, and measuring from there, the Kahr is actually 5.625” long. This is similar to how guns are measured with the IDPA box test if people are familiar with that.

Here are a couple of side by sides

Just carry a 380 and call it by the European name 9mm short or 9mmx17, then you'll feel warm and fuzzy. If you are a John Browning fan call it the 9mm Browning and you'll feel even better. Buy only Euro ammo so you'll have a matching head stamp.
