[insert obligatory statement about this not being a caliber issue, please do not compare or think that I am comparing the .380 to the .45 in any way]
I always seem to start my posts off with long-winded background info. I'm not very good at getting right down to the point, sorry.

I have an LCP for my EDC. It's almost always in a thin kydex pocket holster in my front pocket because, well, it's just that small and I love being able to pocket my CCW (IWB carry is nice but only when I won't be doing much sitting, in my personal opinion). Now that my wife is going to be getting her CCW permit soon, I'm thinking of giving her my LCP and going for a .45 XDs for myself. My concern is that before I carried my LCP I had a G26, and it proved way too thick for either IWB or Pocket carry for my tastes. The LCP has been GREAT. I know that the XDs is going to be bigger than the LCP, for obvious reasons. But is it as big as the G26? Can anyone compare the two? Overall length isn't much of an issue. I'm mainly concerned with the width/thickness of the gun.

Side note: if the XDs doesn't pan out I'll probably end up going J-Frame.

XDS is just about 1inch thick where the Glock 26 is just short of 1-1/4 inches thick at it's widest point. Might not sound like much till you strap it on inside the waistband. That is where you notice the difference. I own both and like the G26 better than any Glock, but I love that XDS9 for IWB CC. I also have a Kel Tec P3at that hides better than any other pistol I own, and it has it's place for deep Conceal Carry, but I don't think you can compare it in any way to the XDS9 or the G26. JMHO.

The XDS is an inch wide at its widest point. They have all the specs on their website. I have pocket carried mine, but it is a tad large. Carries IWB great in a hybrid holster.

I traded in my j frame in favor of the XDs. J frame cylinder is quite a bit wider than an inch. I'm glad I made the trade.

I'm sure you are aware there is a recall on the XDs right now, and you'll have a wait before you find one.

My first entry into plastic pistols was the XD-S .45 and while a little thinner than a G26 (which I just bought and am shooting and taking my CCW classes with) it is *way* more punishing in the hand to me. I *loved* the Springfield XD-S especially in .45 but if you are the least bit concerned with recoil you need to shoot and handle one before you buy.

Like you, I'll end up with a carry pistol in a pocket at times and evaluated the XD-S and G26 for this specific carry option.

Both of these disappear into a pocket on me. I'm 6' 3" and about 180 pounds.....no extra in the middle and a bit muscular. The G26 and the XD-S both are very easy to conceal but I bought the Glock G26 because of the Springfield recall. There is very little difference between them but I think the G26 fits me better as it conceals in this carry style better and it's a lot more controllable.

The Springer literally abraded and beat my hand after 50 rounds so bad I had blood coming to the surface. Not that this would matter in a fight but it makes practicing very difficult. I'm loving my G26 but if I lose it to my Wife (and it looks like I might....) I'll likely purchase an XD-S in 9mm and try that for perspective. Nothing will be as small as the LCP in .380 as they are very slim and very small...for pocket carry the XD-S will be much wider and heavier and just larger feeling overall but it should conceal in a pocket unless you are small.

VooDoo

I find the xds 45 enjoyable to shoot. Can't wait to get it back from Springfield. The glock 26 didn't work for me as a pocket gun,I found the grip too short to draw quickly from a pocket. The lcp or an airweight j-frame are going to be easier to carry in a pocket.
