Loading 230 gr. copper plated Berry bullets in 45 cal. using 5.4 gr. of Bullseye . Got a deal on 1000 , 230 gr. lead bullets. My Lee reloading manual does not state a load for 230 gr. lead bullets using bullseye. Only been loading for a couple years. Where should I start this charge. Thanks.

lymans 4th shows for a

Lyman # 452374 225g ball
Bullseye 4.0-5.0 oal 1.272

Lee 230 TC tumble lube is
Bullseye 4.6-5.1

I load Bullseye in 230 LRN and 200 lead SWC. The best result is 4.2 to 5.0 of Bullseye. COL 1.250-1.252 and crimp 0.469

4.2 is a very nice load and accurate.

+10000 on the 4.2 gr. load. Been shooting that for many years. 4.2 to 4.5 loads are a joy to shoot. I have gone as low as 3.7 but you start to be able to see the bullet going downrange.

That's too much Bullseye for a 230 grain plated bullet.
You are +P with a jacketed, let alone a plated bullet!

Better back off.

I kind of hope it was a reference to 45 LC, Without an OAL how is one to know. When someone states 45 it usually means ACP.

When the great gun grab began Alliant has left the shelf of the LGS and has yet to return with any consistency, ( been over a year now and have seen it once). That and Green Dot were two of my go to powders. Edit Missed putting this in...must have erased it.? Anyway My favorite 45acp 230 FMJ load using Bullseye was with 4.6 Gr @ 1.250" and chronograph average 5 shot was 809 fps 68 degrees outside. FWIW it was an accurate round. YMMV. BTW I am currently without a chronograph and I'm hating it!

I know Bullseye MAX LOAD data from the Alliant sight list a 230 TMJ RN @ 5.7 gr Bullseye OAL 1.26" @ 840 FPS but it is not the same as a Plated round. Lyman data has the Lower charge and a longer OAL. @ 1.275" and max 5.3 Gr Bullseye and giving 43 more FPS @878 FPS. Note the OAL and barrel length's. are different.

Drail, 10,000 rounds is a lot to me. Think I will try your 4.2-4.5. thanks. Rcmodel you said 5.4 was to hot for 230 plated 45 acp . Should I use the data stated for lead on my plated rounds . I'm still learning, so what should I back off too on my plated bullets ? You guys are great. Thanks for the advice.

4.7 Bullseye is about a factory / mil-spec duplication load with a 230 RN jacketed bullet.

It will work as well with a plated bullets.
