You're lucky you can still buy lead...here in CA I used to be able to buy linotype at 50 cents/lb from recyclers but no longer...even the tire places around town won't sell their used wheel weights any longer!

Keep looking. lead is out there. I used to have a deal with the walmart tire store manager to buy their lead. When a 5 gallon bucket got half full I would pick it up for $5.

The other day in the WM parking lot a pickup had a pile of sheet lead in the bed. there was a kid in the truck so I ask what he was going to do with it. He said sell it for scrap. How much do you think you will get for it I ask? Thirty bucks or so. I ask if he would take $20 and save the trip to the scrap yard? He did. When I got it home and cut up into smaller pieces I weighed it. I got 257 pounds of dead soft lead for 20 smackers.

Now I have around 300lbs of dead soft, 1000lbs of wheel weight and 80lbs of linotype. I don't look for it much anymore.

I did tell my wife that if I croak don't throw it away. At least she knows its worth a little money.
