Took out the ol stainless 58 Uberti for a ride yesterday. .457 lee 220 grain conical cap and ball boolits shot to point of aim with 30 grains OE.

It was plenty powerful.

My wife and i shot about 24 times off handed @ 23 yards measured.

Whats your opionion on the lee conical for cap n ball?whether it be .375 ,. 450 or .457?

Depends on if your gun likes it. I have three 1858 Pietta and one is a tack driver with the Lee conical and the others shoot more accurate with 454 round balls. Go figure?

I think the Lee conicals are good in that they won’t deform the nose when loading, but I’m a hunter and want a wide meplat so I get much better than a caliber sized hole, even at very low velocity. Once I’ve settled on my new bullet design I’ll purchase an extra ram so I can use epoxy and create a proper ram.

Sounds good brother, lmk when you finalize your design. I know you've put a great deal of thought into it and id be interested in the final design you come up with.
