I hadn't been aware that Lee had introduced a steel insert base for the quick change bench plate. I have the plate from a few years ago, which came with two plywood bases. I had to idle a seldom used press for lack of a third plate or bench space for it and recently renewed interest in using it. Looking for another wood base rather than make my own or buy a whole additional assembly, I discovered this:

Lee bench plate

Late to the party, I suppose. I ordered the Steel Bench Plate Block.

I have one that came with Lee's press stand. Sturdy enough to handle all that I've thrown at it.

The party is still on, so you're not really late. ;)

I have one and really like using it. My bench is multi purpose and makes removing the press a snap. Good and solid also

I also have one with the metal mounting plate, and it works fine, but I just replaced it with one of the Inline Fabrication Ultramounts. They also make a quick change attachment, which I did not purchase (yet). It is not the same as getting a (almost) flat bench like you can with the Lee mount, but I like the height much better with the Ultramount.

I have the "Ultramount" for my classic cast turret, but thanks for the heads up about a quick change part. I have four other Lee presses that rarely get used and for which I don't need to dedicate bench space. For now I just needed one more "block" for the bench plate mounting. I will grab one of those Inline Fab units so my Ultramount can serve all the ones with blocks on them.

I hear great things about their quick change attachment, but have never seen one in person. Let us know how you get along with it.

Lee discontinued the wooden plates because they always seemed to work loose and pull forward. if you look at the metal plate there are two small table on the top at the narrow end that catch the retainer on the base preventing the plate from pulling forward. I liked the wood until I tried the metal which works very well.

I have the Lee bench plate block, delivered and installed, no sweat. Very nice.

The Inline system for the Ultramount though requires a different pattern "block" for each variation in press brand and model, $18+ a pop. That is the same price as Lee, but the Lee block is universal for all their presses.

I kind of DIY'ed my own adaptor plates, for each press, using $4 6x6x1/4 plates that have a hole in each corner, I bought at Pacific Steel:

So I have less than $10 in each "adaptor plate"
Rock solid.
:D
