What gun would you be loading for that neck sizing 7-30 would work?

I neck size the 7-30 Waters for my Contenders. If the action gets a little hard to close I bump back the shoulder a little. Using Hornady New Dimension dies. Just don’t screw them down all the way.

I have a Redding 7-30 neck sizing die that works. At one time Lee would make a custom collet die in 7-30 for about $50.00, I believe you had to send a couple of cases fired in the chamber of the gun you were loading for. It wouldn't hurt to check with them.

A neck size only die is fine, but what will you do when you eventually need to resize the shoulder. Throw the brass away? No. You'll need to buy a full length die to resize the shoulder. Do you really want to pay for two die sets?
Just buy a normal full length die and don't screw it down the last full turn or two. It will work perfectly at resizing the neck only. Then, when you need to resize the shoulder, just screw it down a little more. Bump the shoulder back a little, move it back a lot. You’re in control. Just screw the die up or down accordingly.
It’s easy, but it does take some “know how“. If you’re unsure how to do it, the proper technique is described at many handloading sites on the web. Jeff Bellm’s web site has some great tips for handloading for the Contender. Read this one:

I just backed the Lee sizer die off approx 1/2 turn after fire-forming and first reloading of .30/30 brass I reformed. (I used some Lee .285" 130gr cast bullets loaded to touch the grooves over 7.5gr of Unique- work splendidly, and was accurate, too).
Brass shows evidence of lasting forever......And accuracy is amazing from 21" bbl 5lb rifle.....
