I'm on a limited budget so get what I can afford so I picked up a lee perfect powder measure/thrower.

I was loading h335 the other night and in the beginning I would put a 223 can in the tube and throw a charge to be weighed on the scale and it would throw powder off to the side of the case making a mess. after several throws it stopped but started doing it again. everything was tight on it, sometimes its a few flakes and sometimes more.

any thoughts?

Mine has major leakage/binding issues with w296 which is a ball powder, very similar in size and shape to your h335. It is recommended to tighten or loosen the screw in the center of the drum but I have never gotten it to run smooth and leak free with fine ball powders.

Not familiar with H335, but some fine powders leak from around the drum. The screw holding the drum in place can be tightened a little, and lapping the drum in the frame is another remedy. Check the link in daboone's post...

BTW; I have one I bought in '88 and still use it when I have one of my others set-up and don't wanna change it. I have found it to be as accurate as many higher $$$$ powder measures (when I use W231 in it, I can easily hold +/- .05 grain between charges, yes I can!)...

After disassemble and cleaning--do not adjust tension with leaking powder in the measure.
Is it leaking or is there a problem with the case mouth/measure connection?
One is simply a problem of break-in (best handled with bench-mount and paper under measure to catch leakage) and the other is a question for Lee or you handling of the case (keeping it tight against the measure).

Make sure you have the correct bushing installed for small bore rifle case.
Secondly, leave the ram at its full up position for a couple of seconds. Sounds like you maybe trying to operate it too fast.

Is it throwing it off to the side from the drum? Mine leaks from the drum with certain powders, mainly HP-38. I've messed with it trying to make it stop but haven't found a solution yet. In my case it isn't much so I don't worry about it much. Mine is mounted to the bench so I just clean it up after I'm done loading.

I wasn't aware it came with different bushings

I put the case mouth tight in the tube and pull the lever down, it slings it out of somewhere and I don't think its coming from going into the case cause the throw is dead on each time. its like its spraying it outwards cause I bolted it to the bench with a plastic bowl under it and it sprays the whole bowl.

My PPM doesn't leak much anymore but it did when it was newer...I guess it has broken/worn in or something. I did tighten the center screw just a little. Either way the leaking from around the drum doesn't actually affect the powder drop, it's always been spot-on accurate. It also feels a little gritty from time to time; maybe I just put up with it because I've never owned another measure but I'm happy enough with it.

I discovered something about the PPM.

There is a silicone wiper wedgd into the cone. Over time this tends to smash down and no longer be able to keep powder from escaping out the drum/cone.

I fooled around with it and slid a small folded piece of paper under the wiper, effectively raising it above flush with the cone. It really has helped to keep excess powder from spilling over, and an occasional cleaning with alcohol also helps.
