Lee Perfect Powder Measure

Well, mine isn't. Either that or I was expecting too much. Loading 223 with IMR 4198 which is a stick powder and I'm getting drops that vary by as much as 0.4 Gr. Did the break in as recommended too.

Now if I'm expecting too much, please tell me.

Also, if you have experience with this powder measure, please tell me how yours works.

You have to double bump it to keep things accurate. I figure that factory ammo has larger variation than you are getting.

I have one and i use it for 38 spl 2.7 gr bullseye works great!

My shooting buddy had one and found the Lee Scale to be the culprit.

I had 2 Lee Measure that I gave to him - he likes them that much. Now he has 3.

I have found that you need to give the measure a gentle rap! on the handle pivot when you're filling the drop tube measure, to settle the powder in the measure. I learned that trick from an old-timer, who insisted that all drop measures needed such treatment from a knocker. I use a screwdriver, held by the shaft, and lightly knock the plastic handle of the screwdriver against the measure pivot screw.

Works like a SuperFlyChamp.

I have one that I usually use with 4227 and get excellant results. However I do not know 4227 compares to 4198.

+1 to the 'double bump'. I make a habit of tapping the measure twice sharply after each lever move, and the pivot point, just like rbernie said.

The Lee scale and powder measure is quite repeatable on my bench. I will, when time is available, go back and do some in depth testing on repeatability of both measure and scale and try to identify any variation that may exist.

I use mine with Bullseye exclusively. It is scary accurate from charge to charge. I hand throw all my powder charges for rifle ammo.

I will attempt to post a video of my method on youtube. I did not like the tool at all, and thought the same as you, but I watched a guy on youtube use the RCBS one. I tried his methods, and got pretty good results.
I also changed scales from the lee to the lyman pro 500, and that showed me how bad my lee scale was off. It never weighed the same charge the same twice. Threw the lee scale in the garbage as a safety precaution.

Just got one of these; about $20 from MidwayUSA, used it for the first time this past weekend. I was loading for .308 Win, and got to use it with three different powders; RE-15, H335, & BL-C(2). Worked great! Accurate, fast, and does what it is supposed to do at less cost than any of the competition. This has got to be just about the best money I've spent yet on reloading equipment; rivaled only by the Lee Auto-Prime 2 I recently purchased.
