lee powder measure leak fix

has anyone come up with a good way to fix a leaky lee powder measure? it only leaks the fine pistol powder that i am using. mine is basicly brand new and leaks at least in my opinion. terribly. lee says its not unsafe, but i just dont like it. i tightened up the adjuster enough to make it quit, but then it turns so hard it is miserable to use. it does measure good, its just a nusence to keep cleaning up the powder.

I have the Lee Auto Disk powder measure and I did solve the powder leakage between the hopper and the disk...

If only I would read the whole post I might get a hint as to which one you have. At a guess yours is a newer model then mine...

I have the same issue with mine. I'm using 2400 and it gets all over the place and gums up the turret. I thought it was just me but i'm glad to hear someone else has the same issue. However when it works it works great.

so, which Auto Disk model do you have?

There's the older 'standard' - non-plated base, with red plastic hopper.
Then, there's the older 'deluxe' - plated base, smoke hopper

Then there's the "Pros"--older and newer.

Describe them. My experience with them says it depends on what combination of items you are using.

here's my method, take the lee powder measure and base and turn it upside down holding onto the stand. Now here's the tricky part take the measure stand and all and hold it about three feet off the floor and then release into the nearest trash receptacle. then log onto midwayusa.com and order a real METAL powder measure of the brand of your choice, I recommend the RCBS uniflow.

I switched to using flake type powders in my auto disk, there isn't really any effective way to fix them to where they stop leaking,

I hear the perfect powder measure has the same problem with leaking ball powders, I've never used one so I don't have any ideas short of changing powder types,

when I use lil'gun, h110, 4227 etc, I use a hornaday powder measure, it doesn't leak.

Krochus, will the Uniflow mount on the Lee flare die and operate like the Lee powder measure?

Ditch it an purchase an all metal powder measure like a Uniflow.
Plastic just cannot hold the tight tolerances needed.

Sorry guys, but I happen to like my Lee Auto disk (20 year old with red plastic hopper) and it does not leak anymore after my little fix.

The RCBS Uniflow will work with the Hornady case activated linkage kit, which also uses expander/belling inserts, which allows you to expand the case mouth while dumping powder. RCBS has almost the same linkage, but it does not use expander inserts.

I think we're on different wavelengths here folks, confusing lee disk measures with the "Perfect" powder measure. In my experience the former works fine with ball powders like 231 while the latter leaks with ball, but works fine with stick powder.

Of course I could be confused.

There are two different (actually three) measures being discussed. The old auto disk has no elastomer wiper and would leak fine powders more than th Pro Auto disk which does have a wiper between the resevour and disk.

The rifle powder measure works great and is very accurate, but I've never used it with anything other than kernaled rifle powder. It's best use is "restricted" in that manner but for that type of powder, it's the most consistant measure I've used. For real fine powder, I guess I would spoon it if I used it for rilfe - anything less than that, I use the Pro Auto Disk and don't have any issues with that.

The Perfect Powder measure will leak ball powders. I spoke with someone at Lee about this time last year and he indicated to me that they were in development of a new powder measure. It should have been released by now, but it hasn't been. He seemed optimistic that it would cure the leakage issue.

That said, the PPM works great with H4895 and Varget. Very consistent.

Phil A...That's what I did about 15 years ago with my Auto Disk. Only I didn't know that Lee had it posted on their web site. The advantage of being a master mechanic I guess. Wasn't hard to figure out really...Hasn't leaked sense...(should have sold the idea to Lee before they discovered it).

I have the newer pro disk and it does not leak at all. It has a rubber piece that rides on the disk and keeps everythng contained. I hear that the old ones leaked and that is why they made the upgraded one with the rubber wiper.
