So my equipment has sat at my parents house like the last ten years and I have recently got back into reloading once again. In my teens I used the pro 1000 to process pistol brass and I would use a hand primmer to seat the primmer and then load on a Lee loadmaster. (Why have I not got a Dillon 1050 yet I keep asking myself) So I got the press mounted last night and the carrier will not index at all. It just slides up and down the rod. I have multiple caliber carriers that I assume work as I have not dismounted the 19s 9mm carrier yet. Does anyone have a thought on this?

The plastic rachet and gear inside the carrier might be broken. Take the carrier off and remove the metal plate on the bottom of the carrier to access the parts. These parts are cheap and pretty easy to find online or get them directly from Lee.

Do you have a top die holder plate in place? I've forgotten to do this when swapping calibers and then wonder why it's not indexing when testing it out.

Well I have tore it apart tonight and it was not the gear and ratchet, it was what ever lube I had used 10 years prior that turned to expoxy. I scrapped it off lubed it with the cheapest motor oil I had and set the gear and it ran like a champ.

What calibers are you going to be reloading? Also, if you still have the Loadmaster, Lee has updated the primer feeder which might be worth getting.

223,30 carb,357 mag, 45 acp,45 lc,44 spl, 44 mag,9mm 38 special, 30/30 are all game for the loadmaster. I bought every product Mikes reloading bench offered for the loadmaster and I have to say it has improved the press greatly.

Awesome, I love happy endings.

For each reloading session, I usually put a drop of oil on my finger tip and lube the center hex rod (Lee calls it "Action Rod") on top and bottom of shell plate carrier and cycle the ram until shell plate indexes smoothly. During the reloading session, if the indexing becomes less smooth, I will apply additional lube until indexing is smooth again.

I found lubing the hex rod not only makes indexing smooth but will also extend the life of the nylon hex gear. Before lubing the hex rod, I used to replace the gear at around 10,000-20,000 rounds but since I started lubing, I haven't replaced a hex gear. :)

I wasn’t happy with the priming or the consistency of the lee disk measure, so I do .38-.357, .44 Spl-Mag and .45 Colt brass the same way with my two Lee 1000 presses. (I have two challenger presses also mounted on the bench, and a C press in case I need a third.

Stay safe!
