A friend of mine has one of those reloading kits that you need to use a hammer to beat things into place with (I don't remember the name at the moment).

Does anyone know if the dies for that system have a common thread so as to be also used with a press? I'm giving some though to getting him a press for his birthday.

Thanks!

Sounds like a Lee Loader kit, which is a completely different system for reloading. If he gets a press, he's going to have to get a dieset and shell holder for it.

One does not use these "pound-in" style dies with a press, ordinarily. However, it is possible, and even desirable, to use them with an arbor press or a vise. I have used L.E. Wilson dies that way for years and formerly used the old (discontinued) Lee Target Model Loader with a vise or an arbor press. One can load exceptionally straight ammo that way.

This was how I started out in reloading, and made many a cartridge with them.

"...giving some thought to getting him a press for his birthday..." Must be a very good friend. Presses aren't exactly cheap. If he's using the scoops with is Lee Loader, buy him a scale and/or a Lyman manual instead. The scoops can vary the powder charge plus or minus a full grain.
