I just got my lee zip trim seems easy enough but when i use the lee case trimmer it will not go in far enough to do any cutting ? Do you have to deprime before trimming ? If so do you then need to use the sip trim or the drill holder b/c it will trim to much off if you dont ? I tried it by hand and it cut to much off the case but if I chuck it into the zip trim then the shoulder doesnt reach the bottom of the case the pin that goes threw the flash hits on the zip trim. Maybe IM looking at this all wrong could use some help here.

I'm not 100% sure of your system, But usualy you need to run the brass in the sizing die. If it goes through the sizer it will not have a primer. Also after the sizer is when you need to measure the length to trim. After the sizing die the brass should fit through the pilot to trim your brass.

We always trim after sizing and de-priming our brass because sizing changes the length of the brass. Also, the Lee case trim tools will only work with the primer removed.

You do if you want to trim with the lee system. Other systems like Possum Hollow don't required a deprimed case.

If the Zip Trim is that Lee hand-held deal with the drill motor, then your answer is 'YES'. The depth is set by the pin going through the primer hole and landing in a socket in the piece held in the drill motor. The interaction between those 2 parts of the trimmer is what sets the length between the 2 parts of the trimer and therefore sets the case length.

That type trimmer will not work unless the primer hole is 1) de-capped, and 2) in the exact center of the primer pocket.

Hope this helps!
