Mass legal question?
Let's say I am a resident in Ohio where owning high capacity weapons is legal and I purchase a Para 14-45 with standard capacity 14 round mags, then I get transfered to MA a year later; will my standard capacity , made in 2005, mags be legal in MA or not?

They were purchased legally, and are legal where I purchased them.

Followup question, what happens to someone not knowing the laws of MA when they move there with their high cap.. I mean standard capacity... mags made after 1998?

The law in MA seems to be contradictory on these points!

IF your mags are "pre-ban,"

they are legal. If not; not.

The difficulty is proving that mags not marked "LEO" or made for guns which did not exist prior to the ban are NOT legal. As P-14's predate the ban, it should not be a problem. ;)

I don't know what comes in a new P14, but if you buy magazines directly from the Para Pro Shop, pre-ban mags are black and post-ban mags are nickel.

Honestly, the laws are so confusing that many people can't figure them out. If the magazines in question are marked the same as pre-1994, police (if they even bother to check/care at all) will assume the earlier date. After all, even though it's MA, they still have to prove you are guilty.

No one is saying it's a good idea to break the law, just this is one case where it's pathetically easy to get away with it. Heck, drive up to NH and buy normal capacity mags - if they're marked the same as pre-1994 mags, what does it really matter?
