I have some I can live without. Anyone know of any legality issues of selling some extra factory reloaded ammo?

I would rather not do anything remotely questionable. Too much factory ammo I could part with.

If it was reloaded by a proper ammunition company, then you're fine. the same with any other ammo. If it was your reloads it would be different.

I know I can't manufacture reloads for sale without a license. These in question were bought from a licensed reloader.

I would think it would be legal since they were manufactured by a licensed company but haven't been able to verify.

When you say "factory reloads", you mean made by a manufacturer that uses once-fired brass? I'm pretty sure that's ok.

If YOU reloaded them, that might be different ... dunno.

I have some of these factory reloads. They were made by Ultramax out of Rapid City SD. I think they were selling for $5.99 a box of 50 on sale at Dicks for the .38spl.

Mine are from Mastercast. Love the company, but they stopped producing ammo. Still an excellent source for bullets though.

I still have some 20+ year-old factory reloads marketed for the LE market, and even say "police cartridges" on the box. They're in .38 Special, and are lead SWC loads. The department used to issue them to us upon request at 50 per month.

I've never seen commercially-reloaded ammunition available for sale in a store, though.

If it was made by a licensed manufacturer, there is no legal difference between ammunition made with once-fired brass, as opposed to new brass.

Medwheeler: Have you ever heard of Magtech? That's a commercial reload; you can buy it anywhere.

My local gun pusher sells Ultramax - has been for years, and I've burned a ton of it (.45ACP, 9mm, .40S&W, mostly).

Quality is at least as good as the stuff I just started turning out.

Ultramax also does some "white box" which seem to be identical in every respect, but aren't as pretty. Never any issues with this stuff, either.

Seem to be a little more expensive than I'm really happy with, but my club range requires lead only, and they always seem to have it in stock.

Or at least did before the latest crunch.

Mike at Mastercast decided to get out of the reloading business. It's really a mom & pop operation, although there are employees, and I'm not counting the two beagles and what is supposed to be a Shepherd, but probably could be saddled.... He wants to spend more time with Kate.... Claims to be getting old, too, but he's three years younger than I am :D.

Mike just had a triple bypass, too, and is basically shut down last time I checked the website. A "get well" note wasn't answered, but he's probably up to his oxygen canula in e-mail at this point. I live about 30 minutes away, so I'm going to try to get over there RSN. Long boring story #1: We're using my late mother's car for my wife to drive to work, and the license expired last week. Trying to bash the transfer through Probate so I can get it back on the road.

Meantime, it sits, and Sherri drives my car. I don't get out much anyway, but having the other car in the garage reminds me of the time my grandmother was babysitting me and my two little sisters, and we had to take a cab to a movie, even though I was sixteen. I didn't have a license yet, but dad's work car was in the garage, and I knew how to drive it just fine. (Grandmother never got a driver's license, so we couldn't do the "licensed driver" thing.)

I did luck out on one thing. About the tenth of October, after thinking about it for more than 40 years, I bought a Dillon RL650B from Mike (Mastercast) and enough supplies for a thousand .45's or so. I was able to get more primers last time down there, but only a handful of bullets and no powder. No idea what's available right now. I scrounged some different powder and way different bullets last week at (of all places) my local gun pusher's. It'll hold me for a bit. The powder's "close enough" - Winchester WST instead of my usual 231 (Mike's "normal" load), but the bullets are just plain strange. Probably not intended for .45ACP, but they work well enough when set back into the case quite a ways.

Two of my buddies, many years ago, joined me in buying the necessary goodies to reload, and I'd already started casting when somebody's mother or wife decided that she didn't want gunpowder in the basement.... No idea where all that stuff went. (Single stage press.) I could use the furnace now....

Anyway, Mastercast still sells supplies, and if you find any of their stuff on the shelf someplace, it's fine, IMHO.

Regards,

Also (at least locally, Tucson) Zero Ammunition. I've only seen them recently, their .38 Spl Wadcutters seem to be great.

If I ever get my car back from my wife :D....

I used to be afraid she'd like it, and I'd get stuck with her junker Pontiac (which I barely fit in), but we unloaded it when I inherited mom's '98 DeVille.

Kate had a circulatory problem last Fall, and the day I went down there - at about 1645, they close at 1700 - Mike met me with "don't even bother getting out of the car".... (Kate's fine now, btw.)

I sent him a note to the effect that you either have to be nuts, or know that I'm a good friend, to tell a customer that.... And that I'd be back in a couple weeks. Which I was. Then, when I got the press home, with the car wide open to start carrying the bits downstairs, the wife is home an hour or so early from work with "Stu, we have to talk...." Uh-oh.... :what:

(She'd had a fall at work, as it turned out. Lots of hospital bills and other craziness, but she's fine now. But, after more than 40 years, I had to wait for a good half-hour before I could even bring the new toys into the house!)

Anyway, back to topic, Mastercast is selling fine quality components, and is a Dillon dealer. He tries to stock spare parts & such for the Dillon presses, too. The only downside is that he can't stock too much, and it's moving fast.

The downside to the big Dillon is the cost of changing calibers. To really do it right, it's possibly something around $200 (more if you have the case feeder), and may require a serious strip-down. Which is why I wish Mastercast was still selling reloads for the calibers I don't reload at this time - 9mm and .40S&W. Some guys are advising that you buy several of the cheaper presses instead :D....

Dillon has another downside.... The manual was obviously written by a guy who'd done a dozen or so. Several components seem to require that you really study up on their function before you can install one. I often suggest it's something like:

How to fix your carburetor:

1. Remove Air Cleaner.

2. Fix Carburetor.

3. Replace Air Cleaner.

(With apologies to the guys who aren't old enough to remember carburetors :D....)

Anyway, Mike was making good stuff, and stood behind them. For testing purposes, and old Kimber in a drawer and a trip outside was the method. Spare muffs on a nail :D.... But he really is getting close to 65, and wants to slow down. Components & such, hopefully, will stay on the plate for a while. Besides, I like the dogs....

Regards,

If you bought the ammunition from a licensed ammo company, it's all good whatever you do with it. The Federal Excise Tax has been paid, and that's really the issue.

My concern between selling factory reload vs. new ammo would be keeping the ammo in is original factory reload packaging as so there would not be any confusion as to accountability. Even if the person who shoots himself was 100% negligent; their survivors thinking they were your reloads would bring unwanted attention.
