I was wondering if I would be allowed to put a folding stock on my WASR10 in Michigan. We have a weird law that anything under 30" is considered a pistol by the Mi gov't. Now I don't know if it applies to a folding stock, because it is over 30" at it's longest, or just to a pistol grip only, because it is always under 30" (can't be lengthed to 30"+)

Anyone know for sure?

TIA:)

If the overall length of the rifle drops below 30 inches after you install the folding stock, you must register it as pistol. Even if it is over 30 inches at the longest.

Will they allow me to register it as a pistol? Or would they consider me a manufacturer? If so this is a great way to get around the no loaded long guns in a vehicle law, provided you have a CCW, or at least get them to change a stupid law.

I have been told they will let you register it.

Could be, but I'm not a lawyer. Go to http://www.migunowners.org/ check out the legal section and talk to Jim Simmons, he is a lawyer and taught at my cpl class.

I agree. Check with Jim Simmons. He'll keep you out of trouble. And, if he doesn't know the answer, he'll let you know and won't BS you.

Check into the AG ruling that ruled a UZI carbine as a SBR in Michigan. This is a very similiar situation. Be very careful.
