BTW, I don't want y'all to think I'm rude, but the BUG does NOT get mentioned, nor is it even admitted to be worn. Why give up useful secrets, merely out of something to talk about?
Thus, "What kind of gun are you wearing?" gets answered only to the extent of what they can see. Sometimes it gets hard to resist, though, when they ask me if I'm carrying "a nine," not to nod that I am. (Well? I am! Just not as main battery.)
I think whether the officer will give a civil answer depends largely on what the asker looks like. Scruffs may get a less charitable, complete answer.
And cops who are gun buffs will often give a better, more detailed answer.
Did you read the post today on how the crowd at a rock concert in Canada reacted when the RCMP had to shoot a bear after people crowded too close to it, and were boo'ed for taking that necessary safety step? Probably not the best time to ask the constables which guns they were carrying...
I dont bother asking unless I see something other than a Glock, S&W, Sig, you know, run of the mill duty guns, or something out of place on the sidearm, such as a magwell.
Most of the time they ask about my car ('94 Caprice 9C1), rather than me asking about their sidearms.
