Hi everyone..
Well, after about 2 weeks, my Les Baer Premier II has finally arrived to my FFL (Ade's Gunshop). I got the opportunity to look over the pistol while I did the paperwork. As many know, I purchased the gun through www.sportingarms.com . Becky was the only one that I've spoke to, she took my calls very curteously, answered all my questions. She made me feel confident of ordering over the internet, since I've never purchased a gun outside of California. My emails were promptly returned, after I emailed them the status of the purchase. I requested a call or email when the payment reached SA, but never got it. Only til' I emailed them did I get a response. But, Becky @ SA was very prompt to return my email telling me that they were awaiting a shipment of PII's. Well, she told me most likely the shipment would come in on Friday, well... the next day on Wednesday, I get a email with the tracking number. Not only did she beat the scheduled date that the shipment was suppose to arrive, my gun arrive at the dealer the date she stated she was suppose to receive the shipment from LB. Not bad!!
Overall, my experiences with Sporting Arms was very pleasant, I'd definitely deal with them again. Becky was professional & curteous. Two thumbs up!
As to the PII, I got the opportunity to open it. Boy, gotta love that beautiful case that comes with the gun. A nice, very square, dehorned, cardboard box. :biglaugh: Opened up, and I got a gun in a bag, and a stainless magazine wrapped in paper. Boy, the gun was dripping in oil! My dealer looked at me, and gave me 2 rags to wipe the gun off so I can handle it. LOL. Well... first thing he said was, those LB's are very stiff. He told me a story about the last LB he had come in, he told the guy that bought the gun that he couldn't open the action. The guy that bought the gun said he was strong and it'd be no problem. Ended up that guy couldn't open the action of his gun either! Well... I remembered the trick of applying pressure to the recoil plug, so as my dealer walked away expecting me to fiddle with the gun trying to open the action, it took me 2 seconds to have the slide locked back.
What I noticed, the gun wasn't nearly as tight as the other Les Baers I've handled. Its definitely tight, but I can easily rack the gun. I can even press check the gun without any problems. Heard that most new LBs were difficult to presscheck. Furthermore, there is no slide to frame play at all. Feels like one solid piece of steel. No play at all on the barrel hood to frame, nor the barrel crown to bushing. Wood on the gun is actually kinda nice, my biggest complaint I noticed on many LBs were the average looking wood. But those grip screws, blah! Then of course, the ping pong paddle sized thumb safety. No sharp edges on the thumb safety, nor the grip safety. Checkering on the frontstrap was very comfortable, but I think the oil kinda dampened the sharpness. :biglaugh:
There is one questions though that I'd like answered. Upon inspection, I noticed that the front and back of the slide is slightly dehorned. Definitely dehorned. But the edge running from front to back on the bottom of the slide doesn't look dehorned. Is this natural? My gun isn't the Tactical model which has the dehorned edges, its just a regular PII. I'm curious about this. Are other regular PII's dehorned on the front and rear of the slide?
Well... I can't wait, I have my 10 days to wait. But, actually it'll take 25 days for me to pick up my gun since my dealer is gonna go on vacation starting the day before my 10 days. 25 days to wait.... :biglaugh: :bawling:
Bummer!!
