Let’s talk .45 ACP target loads.! (Load report)

I think I’m going to go ahead and pick up another Dillion SDB, they have 2 locally for $389. My current is setup for .357 and I don’t feel like doing a change out

here they are… just grey happy lead no coating (I don’t think it does)

will load some tonight cuz range day and Springfield Custom Shop Pro photo day (just looking?

Of course they are lubed. Do you not bother to read the product description?

Just don’t shoot them to fast stay at starting load
WST @ Hodgdon 4.4 gr start load @ 830 fps with a 200 grs, is not a Precision pistol loading for Timed & Rapid fire. To much recoil.

Hodgdon data is for cast. Speer is swaged. Time will tell if it makes a difference? (Leading?)

Agreed. The coating Speer is using - at least on their 230gr RN - feels suspiciously like clear powder coating. It works at least as well as powder coating so I’m not complaining but it doesn’t show scrapes as easily as the colors. That could be an issue for progressives. (??)

I’m stocked with a lifetime supply of 200gr SWC or I’d jump on the Speers. I shoot a lot more RN anyway. It makes the cans jumpy. 😂

Okay, maybe @Walkalong didn’t see where I put the arrow pointing to the line just below the shoulder. Or maybe he’s saying seat to the lube groove?
You’ll figure it out.
The post mentioned both, seating to the shoulder, that was clear.

It’s a lube groove that looks like a cannelure, or they figure folks might want to load it in .45 Colt and supply a cannelure/crimp groove.

The whole bullet has lube on it.

FWIW, swaged bullets can be quite accurate... one of the most accurate loads I've ever loaded was those messy Hornady swaged .38 bullets, the knurled ones, under a starting charge of Unique, for my mom's 3" J-frame. I was astounded, and not a little perturbed... mom could outshoot me with it.

They are likely quite soft, so I wouldn't try to hotrod them... dry lube or not. A nice midrange charge of WST might be just the ticket...

I haven’t tried the 200gr LSWC in .45Colt but I have run the 230gr LRN over 7gr of Unique and it’s remarkably accurate, almost pellet gun recoil and has enough punch to bounce dog food cans. I never bothered clocking it but I’d guess it’s worth about 650fps from my 5” Vaquero.

Awesome info in this thread! I've got 500 MBC 200 grain coated swc bullets headed to the house as we speak. I have never loaded a swc for a semi-auto pistol, but have high hopes that I can get them to run well in my new Colt competition. This thread will help me get them going. I have primarily only shot 200 grain plated hps pushed along with a load of Clays. The Colt shoots that stuff really well and is as accurate as I can be. BUT. I have always heard folks rave about the 200 swc bullets being accurate. Had to try it. And I love those clean holes in the paper!
