Wow. I've only got a few guns and they arent even really mine, they're "family" guns. I need to start working on my collection.

At first I thought all the talk about criminals looking up what you have to steal on here was a bit silly. Then I saw the armories some of you guys have, and I thought to myself, if I wanted to steal guns, that would be the place to go. And then it occurred to me that if you've got that many guns in the safe, god only knows what you've got outside of the safe, and I wont go anywhere near your house uninvited.

I am considering buying some nice, sexy nighties for my wife.

I'd really like to see photos of your wife in hers.

Meef...so your saying your gun safe is intimate to you?
Nope.

What I was saying is that some things are better left out of public display - unless you happen to be maybe Big 5 Sporting Goods or Victoria's Secret.

Strictly IMO, of course.

A door peg question
Those are wonderful. Where did you get them and how did you install them? Great planning needed I bet. Regards, Bill

For the handguns on the door I used a type of spool pegs, I bought them years ago from an arts and crafts store, if I remember right, at the time they came in a little plastic bag with 12 or so per bag and they didn’t cost much, not long ago I went to buy a few more and they came in a little bag of 3 for $0.99.

My safe has a backing plate behind the fire liner so pegs can be screwed in (there was a factory peg kit but I didn’t like them), the pegs are spaced for each handgun, I used washers behind some to space them out as needed with certain handguns and on a few I cut the lip of the spool off in some places to clear the front of the trigger guard, each handgun has to be lifted up from the muzzle then pulled out.
Some of the handguns have been on the door for 8 years and I have yet to have any problems with wear on the pistols or have any fall off, they fit very solid.

My new ft knox

Here is my beauty. She's 72" tall, 41" wide, 28" deep, and weighs 1850 lbs. Right now i have the 26 gun interior but i can expand it to 52. Come late April/early May she will have lots of goodies inside. Very much worth the cost and wait.

For those of you that don't have basements, where do you put your safe? We have a big closet on the 2nd floor but I am nervous about supporting 800+ lbs just for the empty safe.

Here's my portable safe - nice and easy to carry. :D

I'd show you but I'd have to kill you after you see it. Sorry guys can't play this game.

I have the same question as Slappy. What about putting a big one upstairs? I'll be moving soon and the 2nd floor appears to be my only option right now.

Well, I can't compete with the guns or safes, so tomorrow I'm going to walk around with a 3 foot salami stuffed down my pants.

Have an architec or qualified person look at the construction of your house.
I can tell you as a carpenter its not a good idea in certain places on the second floor. I've seen posts put under Refridgerators and bathtubs (in basements) because the floor wasn't strong enough.
You could get a lighter sace and bolt it down. Just remeber even the heavey safe come back down easier than they go up. Sepecially if your not worried about damaging stuff.

also go out into the middle of the floor and jump up and down(where you want to put it). if the stuff on your tables starts moving you can skip the professional advise.

I gotta take some pics of what I'm using. It's a homebrew safe to use until I move and have the ability to buy a real safe (a year I think). It's actually decently secure for what it is and for how much it cost (a little under $200 I think total).

It consists of a bunch of pistol safes bolted together and secured between two layers of wire rack. The wire rack also holds several locked cases of ammo, and they're all secured to the rack with a cable lock.

When I have the ability to get what I want, I'll probably go with Amsec.

when I saw rangegod's pic, I thought at first those were screwdrivers.... and I was thinking, "Man that guy has a lot of screwdrivers... but why put them in a safe?" and then I realized they were pistols and my jaw dropped on the floor.

Awesome.

The "safest" safe.......

Several replys have been addressing the security issue and I guess that I have to lean toward the idea that your - [fill in the blank (guns, jewels, cash, lobsters)] - are at their safest when you're the only one who knows where they're at. My last house (which I designed & built) had a 2' deep false wall that was fireproofed and tempered-steel lined. The vertical design of the wallpaper totally hid the seams and I used invisible hinges recessed into the frame/door seam. The locking mechanism was a cam-action lever hidden in a closet next to the false wall which operated (5) 1" pins. It might sound more complicated than it really was but it was easy to build and fairly inexpensive for having a 12 sq.ft. foot print and 8' tall.
I owned that house for 22 years and had many a party with sleep-over guests and nary a one ever guessed that they were leaning against an armory of 50+ guns and hundreds of pounds of ammo.

The old man said, “1911's & S&W's”, but the young man wanted to travel a different road. Until finally, after many a hard mile the now aged, worn and tired man came to understand; 1911's & S&W's were all he ever needed.
You forgot Rugers. I see some in your safe.

Jubjub, you're gonna suffocate the poor thing.
