When I was a young man I worked in warehouses and as a shipping clerk. I got used to always having a large sturdy folding knife on me that I could open with one hand (such as when I was holding a box with the other). I learned to do that with a Buck knife, but it sure got a whole lot easier when the thumb-hole knives came out. I much prefer them to the stud opening kind. If I am not at work I always have a folding knife with me. It shouldn't be surprising that practically the first tool that humans invented would prove to be useful pretty often.
