Let's see some Smith & Wesson Model 25's.

In spite of my saying I'm not going to buy any more guns for a while, I gave in. Last week I saw a pretty set of grips on the rack at my local shop. Turns out it was a Smith & Wesson 25-5, in 45 Colt. Target hammer and trigger, pinned 4" barrel, Magna grips. I would have rated it at 98%, the dealer said 95%.

I hemed and hawed. Turned it over and over. Put it back. Got it back again. Finally I had them put it on layaway. :banghead:

Man...I am so weak.

Anyway. Let me see some of yours. I'm forgetting what it looks like.

How about a Model 26 (actuall pre-26/Model of 1950 45 Target):

Same as the Model 25, but tapered barrel. This one shoots like a guided missile.

I have a number of N-framed 45 caliber revolvers but the most interesting, at least in my opinion, is one I had built because S&W didn't build it.



Basically it is a blue steel Mountain Gun in 45 ACP. Smith only made the stainless (625) Mountain Gun in ACP/AR and that was a short run.

This one started out as a M25-2, then had a 1950 tapered barrel installed. I had it cut down to 4", the butt rounded (like all the MGs), the cylinder lightly radiused on the leading edge, then the whole thing was bead blasted and blued.



It a great gun on the shooting range, or to pack in the desert or mountains.

This is my Model 25-2 and 625JM. The 25-2 came out of the factory in the early ‘70s. It had issues with timing. After that was taken care of, it turns out to be very accurate, even with .456” chamber throats. I never could stand the 6 ½” barrel, so in the early ‘80s I had it cut to 5”. I feel that is a much better length.

The 625JM is about 5 yrs. old. It came out with a forcing cone that looked like it was cut with a dull pen knife. After that was taken care of, it shoots very well. It has .452” throats.

Both of them now have very nice triggers. I shoot the stainless guns much more than I shoot the blued guns.

Gosh, among these beautiful blued beauties, I cannot even DARE to post a pic of my stainless 625. Nice guns, guys.

Cajun: They are not making these any more. If you keep it just a few years, and decide you made a mistake, you could turn a profit. No regrets!

I did a seperate thread when I got this, but I suppose I might as well add mine to the original since it's resurfaced. Besides...there might be one person who didn't see it.

I haven't shot it yet, but hope to tomorrow...well today now...if it doesn't rain.
