put ALL the ammo and component companies, now allegedly owned by ATK (Alliant Techsystems, Inc), on notice for 2010, that the US govt will be buying THE LARGEST AMMUNITION ORDER in US history, and will demand so much ammuntion that ATK will not be able to produce any civilian ammo or components UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Boys and girls, by claiming national security priority, and the needs of the military, the feds can easily tie up all available US made ammo until such a need is fulfilled. This could be the first step to some new backdoor gun control. Have all the guns you want, but you won't be getting anymore ammo soon. In the meantime, don't cause a panic, but stock your own shelves before 12/31/09. If you think the ammo panic of '09 has been bad, imagine what it might be if the above is more than a rumor. I was given this info from a person who allegedly spoke with an ATK employee. Might be blowing smoke, but might be true. Hopefully, new domestic ammo and component companies will rise up to supply us, along with healthy imports (if an anti-gun adiministration doesn't stall things at the docks, etc), and those companies will resist being absorbed by ATK.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzz. 'wakes up' "Allegedly"? Please. Stop passing internet rumors and making a fool of yourself. Before this thread is lock, let me give you some advice: Don't post anything about goverment's evil anti-gun schemes without researching them and posting at least some proof. "National security?" that might work for .223, 9mm, .308, etc. but there are dozens of calibers that the military has no intrest in. Once again, no more tin-foil conspiricy theorys please

Hey, I hope it's not true. Mandolin, you can just disregard. It's that simple. If I had proof, I'd go on the Oprah show before she shuts down. I'd go on Fox news. I'd go on Larry King. Well, you get the drift. I thought that MAYBE this would be useful info for those that were tetering over whether to buy some stuff, or maybe wake up some sleepers. The idea that the munition makers will be producing 5.56, 7.62, 9mm, .50BMG, etc, for the government, and STILL be producing lots of civilian ammo is fallacy. If the government puts a big demand for ammo, the producing companies will probably be forced to shut down others production lines and set up for the government demand. As a matter of fact, they probably even have agreements to do just that, in order to secure government contacts. Believe what you want, but anything I can get my hands on will be like money in the bank, either for times like NOW (every order I have received in the last year would easily yield me a 25-50% profit), or if the aforementioned "scenario" becomes a reality, probably 100-200% profit. I do not intend to sell anything for profit, only supply myself and keep my lifestyle intact. The reality has been that money spent on ammo hasn't been speculating....it has been a solid investment.

Hmmm...

Ammunition sales must be slowing down. Maybe someone figures a rumor like this one is a great way to boost them again.

I do apologize. PLEASE, do not believe me. All is well, do NOT panic. Go about life as if things can only get better. I am sure that I have been mistaken. So if you all just relax, I can get what I need without too much interference....................

I won't worry, I've still got several thousand rounds ea. of .223, 9mm and .40. Plus about 6,000 primers, and a few cans of powder. I should be good until 2012, then it doesn't matter anyway according to the movie.

Two things....

- where is all the money for this ammo buy coming from and what is the purpose for needing larger stockpiles?

- never underestimate the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of Americans...if there is a market, someone will find a way to meet the need.

I would guess that an ammo order of this magnitude would not only be part of the budget (it is no secret that the Army, etc, has depleted their own ammo reserves quite extensively, and needs to be replenished), and that the total for ammo would be far less than one new warship or high end aircraft. Money? Taxpayers, and printing by the Treasury. Need for stockpile? National Security (the catch all). Isn't it just convenient that it would dampen civilian gun sales? I guess it might even have been more alarming (for me) to find that ALL the bullet/powder/ammo companies (CCI, Federal, Alliant, etc) have been snatched into one conglomorate, that is now run by one power faction. If such a deal with the government has been cut, it would only need to have been run past one board (that governs all these companies).

I sell bullets for reloading. So if you believe this is going to happen get them now while they are still pre panic prices. Just check my signature for my website. Also, I have some ocean front property here in Idaho that I have for a real good price...

Where do I sign up to start the citizenship process? I hear an unlimited supply of that Wolf crud comes with the citizenship certificate.

the budget for 2010 is already out. for the USG, 2010 started almost 2 months ago. If this is true, it would be easy to find it in the budget, as an order of that volume has to be approved by Congress.

Find me the line item in the budget, and I'll believe you.

Troll. Troll, Troll, Troll, Troll etc etc etc

You wouldn't by merest chance happen to have some ammo to sell would ya.........

The government buys ammunition and makes contracts to buy ammunition all the time. Is there something that makes this buy unusual?

(By the way, a long term contract for a lot of ammunition would be a good thing for the ammunition industry and therefore, eventually, for ammunition buyers. One reason that the shortage is continuing is that the ammunition manufacturers are not adding lots of manufacturing capacity--other than running more shifts--because they see the increased demand as temporary. If they get a large, long term order that could convince them that there's a need to make permanent increases to capacity--that there's money and reason to upgrade and expand. Ultimately that makes things better for everyone who wants ammunition.)

ZOMBIES!

Aiiieee

Owen wanted the budget, and this was all I could pull up. Owen, you're just going to have to contact the GAO, DOD, etc on Monday. I can't do all the work around here!:D

There is not a single element of data in that transaction that gives any kind of comparison between current, past, and future procurement numbers.

I have a family member who works there, I haven't heard anything to this effect.

Also keep in mind, with Iraq winding down, demand for DOD ammo is falling, not growing. The current upswing in Afghanistan isn't nearly as much as the high-intensity era of Iraq. And THAT didn't hurt us too much until the Obamapanic hit.

Why would the gum mint buy up all the ammo the companies could make? Why not just buy the companies?

The so-called solicitation may be OK, but there are points that don't look right; besides, so what? The government buys ammunition all the time, by the ton.

Jim

Guys, I work for the government. There is nothing unusual about that contract. It's a contract for the Secret Service, for the ammunition to be delivered to their training facility (I imagine those folks go through a hell of a lot of ammo in practice). Nothing unusual.

Jeez...
