Let's try this again: employing a NAA .22 Mag Mini Revolver for Self-Defense.

Clearly shows that even a .22 revolver [strike]will[/strike] may possibly, if you're incredibly lucky, stop an armed robber.

Fixed it for you !

:D

Carl Levitan had the best advice, I think. Go for the gut.

The digestive system is the ONLY closed system in the body (meaning that it functions without directly contacting other organs). The mouth, esophagus, stomach and intestine are a basic straight line running in and out of the body. The reason that the digestive tract is closed is the manufacture and use of hydrochloric acid in your stomach. It's used to digest your food, and your body makes it constantly. It also makes mucus to protect the stomach lining from the acid's effects. If you don't have enough mucus made for the amount of acid you produce, you end up with ulcers, where the stomach acid starts eating holes in your stomach wall.

Ever have heart burn? REALLY bad heart burn? That is caused by the gas from the food you ate making the stomach acid rise to the point where it contacts your cardiac sphincter, the entrance to the stomach just below the heart. Anyone who's had it can tell you that it isn't fun. (BTW, if you ever get bad heartburn again, don't use TUMS, use Gas-X. The simethicone in Gas-X will disperse the gas in your stomach and cause the acid level to drop.)

When a bullet is fired into the stomach, it rips a hole in the stomach wall allowing the hydrochloric acid to leak out into the peritoneal cavity, where all your other organs are. The acid burns like crazy, and your other organs aren't designed to handle it, so they shut down. It continues to flow into the peritoneal cavity damaging everything it touches, and can lead to Sepsis and Peritonitis (infections) both of which can be fatal.

When Carl described people saying that their "insides were on fire", what they were feeling was the stomach acid burning everything as it leaked out and went along its merry way. Make no mistake, a gut shot IS fatal if not tended to by proper medical professionals. Blood and acid do not like each other, and acid usually wins. Sooner or later acid will get in the bloodstream, and then the party is OVER.

If I ever have to deal with a BG and all I have is my NAA Pug, I'll be shooting four shots at his gut and one at his throat.

Anyone in the least familiar with human anatomy knows how thin the skull is at the orbits of the eyes, the nasal passages and the sinus cavities surrounding the nose. These areas are defined by the inverted triangle formed by the brow ridge (at the top) and the bottom of the nose at the upper lip. These areas can be penetrated with relative ease by a .22 rimfire, even when launched from such a short barrel.

That is over-simplifying it, to the point of being dangerous advice for the OP.

DNS has it right.

Going about in society is sometimes dangerous.

Carrying weapons is dangerous.

Getting involved in altercations involving weapons is dangerous.

The OP (and everyone else reading the thread) is free to follow whatever advice from whatever source seems best...

Once again.........there is a BIG difference between "killing" and "stopping."

For defense purposes, STOPPING the threat as fast as possible is the goal, not firing shots that eventually kill the badguy.

Some may disagree....

Just wanted to thank those who've contributed serious answers to my question. I think I have what I was after.

:)

I think I have what I was after.

Glad we could help. So tell us........what tactic and/or technique are you going to use and practice ? Something gleaned from either thread or something else you already had in mind?

This is really bad advice! If you want to really tick somebody off who is already excited, shoot them in the gut! If someone did this to me, I would avail all of my being to kill them as quickly is was possible, by any means possible! Preferably by ripping out their adam's apple!

If you want to disable any animal, shoot them in the lungs! This will cause them to collapse and lose all fight fast!

In a previous life, I worked as a nurse in the E.R. I've seen a lot of gunshot wounds come in, all of them living (obviously the dead one did not come into the E.R.) and in great pain. Those that were screaming the most were always gut shots. Those that had the highest percentage of dying were gut shots. I don't know the backstory of those patients, or why they got shot, but I can tell you if you can't stop them, and at least want to take them with you, go for the gut.

Personally, I think a shot to the throat would stop a LOT of people. A lung shot makes sense - can't breathe, can't fight. You just have to hope you don't hit a rib instead. Remember, we're using a .22 mag here.

Right, then, lads.

The OP has indicated that he has what he needs.

Rather than leave this open to attract flies, I'm going to gently close it here.

Thanks for (mostly) keeping it on the rails.
