LETTERED Colt Sig Anomaly

Well it's definitely something you don't see every day. Looks like it got mixed in with a group of Colt Pythons on their way for the Royal Blue treatment.

I do like how Colt considers it an "Anomaly", as in they have no idea how it ended up being "Entirely Blued"!

I bought a #5 belt Paterson from the factory when they were liquidating what was left in 2006. The Paterson I bought had a totally different address than what they had put on that issue of the gun. Even got an "Anomaly" letter.

The letter is nice, the gun is nice, but it seems like their were a lot of anomaly guns leaving the factory during that time???

Notice the "letter" is from the Colt Blackpowder Arms Company, not Colt.

I'm pretty sure very few Sig.series got letters from Colt. Second gens will letter from Colt.

That's not a real "Colt Letter" from Colt. Neat gun and neat letter but it should not be called a "lettered Colt". A real Colt letter contains specific information which that letter does not. Here is a link with a picture of a real Colt letter:

I do think the price is fair and if anyone ever makes a collector's guide that tells all the variations and special editions of the Sig Series guns and how many(or how few) were made it could be worth a lot more.

Here's a 3rd Gen. Sig with a blued frame and gold plated crossed sabers and trigger frame.

Unless there's a complete provenance, one should assume it was blued after manufacture.

The Signature Series 1860 Army Model F1205 came with a bright blue finish on barrel, frame, fluted cylinder, and back strap; CCH hammer; and polished brass trigger guard.

Swathdiver, at the bottom of the link which the OP provided there is a letter from "Colt" Blackpowder Arms Company which states the model number, serial number, and the type of finish for the gun. It also includes the box which should be numbered to the gun and have the same info regarding the finish. You can't see the label in the pictures so that might be something to ask the seller about before bidding. If the box is labeled correctly I would think that combined with the letter it should be good.

You are correct about the trigger guard, Fingers. The crossed swords on the barrel and the Sam Colt signature on the back strap are gold plated, though. It is another Calvary commemorative. I also had the one with the fully gold plated cylinder and all the rest but sold it because I wanted another shooter.

"Cavalry," not Calvary. Calvary is where Jesus was crucified.

Lonesome Pigeon - good eye on that letter. You're right that it isn't Colt per se but Colt Blackpowder. I have one letter from Colt, but it's for a 1911.
