You know I had a pair of these on a rimfire a while back just because I wanted to get up and running as fast and as cheap as possible. If I had to guess I would say they were extruded aluminum and they just get chopped into slices and a couple holes drilled tapped and counter sunk. Only 12 bucks for a pair on midway. I of course, immediately dismissed them as being only decent at best.

Recently I got a pair for a light weight .308 bolt gun and I have to say, they are holding up very nicely to the recoil. The alumunim grips the scope very firmly and are more rigid than you would guess. Besides the usual PITA of mounting any scope in a vertical split ring design, my only gripe is that my Wheeler Engineering torque wrench did not come with the corresponding allen hex bit for these rings. I had to ballpark it using the supplied L shaped wrench (I hate doing that).

They work. Only you need to tighten the bottom screw first to make sure they are gripping the bases, then the top screw to clamp the scope tube. Once you figure out how to get the best grip, they are fine for some applications :)

I have a pair of those. They're not currently mounted because they aren't quite the height I was looking for. I think they look good, better than I expected. Hope you report back after using them for a while.

The technique of tightening the bottom screws first is right for Warnes, but I didn't find a way to make it work with the Leupolds.
