Hi,

So I'm mounting a scope on my Mauser 98 with military safety.

I was wondering if the dimensions given on Leupold's website are based off the front or rear rings. In this case, the Mauser front ring is much larger and higher than the rear receiver bridge.

I've measured the safety in the 90 degree up position and it is 0.875'' above the rear receiver and 0.563'' above the front ring.

I am going to be using Leupold standard 2 piece bases and Leupold standard rings. I'm debating whether I should use Medium, High, or Extra High. The scope I am using is a older VX-II 3-9x33mm scope. This is a Husqvarna rifle so the bolt handle is bent and backward swept to clear scopes.

Midway USA tell me that the Super High rings are 0.5'' high from the base of the ring to the bottom of the tube. High rings are 0.4'' high from the base of the ring to the bottom of the tube. Medium rings are 0.270'' from the base of the ring to the bottom of the tube.

My question is with the additional height given by the Leupold bases (anybody know how tall they are?), which ring will clear the safety at 0.563'' above the front receiver ring? Definitely the super high rings will, and most likely the High. What about the Mediums?

Every time I have called Leupold, I have been connected to a tech who shoots, not a secretary or salesman. They have answered quickly, though once only after a thorough quiz to pin down the exact application I needed. Good folk.
