Leupold 1-4x20 VX-1 Shotgun/Muzzleloader Scope has the widest field of view i can find. i want to put this scope on a Rem model 572 --22rifle to shoot nutria (large beaver like rodents) at 20 t0 75 yds. i need wide field of view for the closer shots.

anyone have any experience with this scope on a 22? it comes with a heavy 4 plex or a turkey plex reticle. what reticle do you recommend?

The parallax on their rimfire scope is set at 65 yards and I believe on their shotgun/muzzleloader scope it's set at 75 yards . The heavy duplex will not be good for target shooting or squirrel hunting , but it should work ok for the distance and size rodent you are shooting . I would prefer a fine or duplex reticle .

I had a Leupold 1-4x20 Shotgun/Muzzleloader scope on a deer rifle. Great daytime walking-around scope. Fast and light.
The heavy duplex is very heavy. The turkey reticle would be better on smaller targets.
A bigger objective, like a 2-7X32, is better in low light. The Vortex Diamondback 1.5-5X32, or something like that, might be worth a look.

I use that scope on one of my AR's. Despite it's shotgun designation it is just fine for any range from 3 yards to at least 300 yards. I'd use it on a 22 without hesitation. In fact I'm going to put one on one of my big game rifles too.

They offer a 3rd reticle option, just to confuse things.

I chose the turkey reticle, but don't think you'd go wrong with any of them.

i sighted the LEUPOLD shotgun scope 1x4 power in yesterday on the Rem 572 pump. the large amount of adjustment in this scope helped my get it zeroed. it was shooting 23inches low at 50yds on the first 5 shot group, after several adjustments i got it zeroed. will be trying it out on nutria on friday. staytuned.

I am accustomed to shooting a 4x bushnell so hte leopold withthe wide angle and lower power adjustment should work very well. it appears to be a nice bright scope.
