Going to be picking up a Leupold VX 5HD and was curious about the users who purchased the firedot .

Do you use that option much and is it worth the extra $100 in your opinion .

The red dot does seem like it might be faster focusing ?

Can always turn it off in descent lighting situations .

Gun will be used for deer and Coyotes and light bench shootiing .

I love the firedot on my Leupold's. Especially, when against varied backgrounds it's easy to pickup and draw ones focus and is not overwhelming like many illuminated reticles which I don't care for. I have a couple on hunting bolt guns and really like it for tracking the center of my reticle.

Thanks for your experience on the firedot in actual use .

Exactly the type of info I was looking for .

I've got 3 VX6 HDs and a VX3HD with illuminated reticles.

More than half the time I forget to turn them on. One of mine is a 1-6X on my 3Gun rig and that does come in handy on 1X. The VX6s have an anti-cant blinking feature which is pretty cool.

I'm trying to buy a 1.5-5X VX3HD Twilight Hunter with dot now for a brush gun I'm putting together. I figure the dot on high will act light an RDS.

I rarely light up my reticle, but when I do, it's because I need it. Better to have it and not need it than .....

For what that VX5 is gonna cost, what's another hundy?

Sorry. but I can't get use to the fire dot. Modern Leopold scopes are so d*** clear during dark days, I don't why anyone really wants to use the fire dot anyway. My gun fits so when it comes up my eye is centered in the scope, period. I think people don't consider the thickness of their shooting jacket or gloves when aligning a scope on a gun or sighting in. I do.
Save your money and put it into a good set of rings and bases.
