narrowed it down to these two
leupold vx-III or zeiss conquest

3-10x 40

which one do you prefer and why?

going on a tikka t3 .270
want range to 225 yards

leupold. They always work and look pretty. I just don't see a reason to try anything else.

I would also have to recommend the Leupold. I have two now and one of them is on a 50 BMG. Both scopes are clear, stable and have given me no trouble what so ever.

I don't have any experience with your other option. I figure if you have something that works, there's no reason to change.

I have the Leupold Scope that you mention and the optics are very clear. It's on a DSA SA-58 FAL. The only drawback to it is that the sweet spot in the range of eye relief is so small my head has to be in exactly the right position to get the best sight picture. Otherwise there is some edge distortion from too long or short eye relief.

My boss has a Zeiss scope on his Howa rifle and I've seen it. It has amazingly clear optics. I was pretty surprised at just how clear they are. I don't know how durable they are compared to the Leupold though.

Both great scopes, but I'd go with Leupold. More elevation adjustment and easier to have serviced.

Yeah, just a quick glace through each of them, you're likely to be more impressed with the Zeiss... The optics are just amazing for the price. But when taking things like long term stability and range of adjustment into account, the Leupold VX III is an excellent choice if you are willing to pay the bucks.

I'm not knocking European optics at all... Just saying the Conquests haven't been around long enough to truly have proven their reliability.

Two great scopes

I'd personally get the leupold, simply because of the warranty. Plus, I only live 15 minutes from the factory, so if I ever have a problem I can drive my scopes over there and get a new ones.

I haven't tried a new VXIII, so I can't really compare it to what I have. However, I have a VXII 3X9, Sightron 6X24 and a Zeiss Conquest 3X9.

I would place the Zeiss at the top for overall quality and crystal clear optics. Think difference between regular TV and HDTV. Next would be Sightron which is not as bright or clear as the Zeiss but is slightly better than the Leupold. The Leupold is still a fine scope but I believe Sightron beats it on value and the Zeiss on overall image and build quality.

Like I said, I haven't compared it to the new VXIII's and Leupold was suppose to make improvements to image, build and funtional quality with that series.

I don't think you can go wrong either way but the Zeiss image/brightness quality will spoil you.
