Lever Actions.

Shame about the Savage M99, I wish I had purchased one when they were "cheap". Of the traditional lever actions, the M99 could be chambered in a high pressure round. I consider the 308 Win a modern, high pressure round, and the M99 was chambered in that cartridge. A M99 in a 6.5 cartridge, like the 260 Rem, would make an interesting combination.

I handled Win M1895's. They were heavy, iron sights only. The Savage M99 can be scoped.

Right on!

How would you guys feel about some ideas here.

Lever Action 260 or 6.5 Grendel. These are some great calibers offering great performance. This would also be a great weapon for youth shooters. Great teaching tool, and not as abusive on an 8 year old as a 30-30.

Lever Action 338MX. This could be a real beast, improving upon the Ballistics of a 30-30 for a bit more reach out to range.

Just wanting to see how you guys feel about having these options.
Try a " reduced load" in that 30-30 for that 8 year old............

Winchester solved the pointy bullet in a lever gun problem a long time ago. Just use a stacked magazine. I forget the proper nomenclature but I know they made one for the Russians in 7.62x54R. I would really like to have one or a reproduction of one just for fun with reasonably priced ammo. I'm not a hunter, I have no interest in the calibers you mention. I shoot a Marlin 1884 38/357 for fun, if I needed to use that for home defense I would not feel under armed at all.

What I would love to see is something along the lines of a BL-22 or Marlin 39, only slightly bigger to allow for say, 22 Hornet, 17 Hornet, maybe a 204 Ruger and 17 Remington. Also the 17 WSM and HMR's would be fun in a lever gun!:D

With little recoil I think the tube feed magazine would not be an issue.

Henry makes lever guns in 17 HMR -- my brother has one, and it is indeed a fun gun.

But, me, I'm fairly serious about shooting crows, coyotes and such, and I prefer a bolt gun in .22 Hornet.

I've mentioned before about arriving in Wyoming for a CAS shoot the day after a guy had exploded his tube mag & splintered the fore-end into pieces that sent him to the hospital.

Levergun, experienced competitor & reloader, and if you're at ALL familiar with CAS you know it's lead only & mild loads. :)

This IS an issue to be wary of. It IS something that occurred early on in magazine rifles that used a tube mag, and it IS the reason why ammunition developed for such tube mags has been & continues to be designed & used such that a hard sharp bullet tip CAN'T hit a primer. :)

The savage 99 was great but went the way of the dinosaur. The BLR is in fact a wonderful gun but it is an oddity in nearly every category it kinda competes. Its not a winchester or marlin, nor a clone of them so it is lacking in the lever market. In big pointy calibers like 308 and 270 the people choosing those calibers will almost without fail go to a bolt gun for hunting, an AR platform as a range gun, or something like a pre64 winchester for a collectible. I love the BLR and am glad its hanging around, but it is the elephant in every room its in. Its sold a lot but not numbers to make a persons eyes roll back, its had a long life but noting like the winchester...at best it plays second fiddle to something else unless the question asked is what current box fed lever gun is on the market. With the market focussed on tactical crapola this platform will likely not gain anything in favor and will eventually die off. I hate that too.
