I have an opertunity to purchase a used skb 600 and the gun looks good. I am concerned with the position of the center lever, it is slightly left of center. I was told this was a sign of needing to be re tightened. Is this true? And how much would it cost to do this repair.

Right of center=good. Left of center=not so good.

Needs retightening soon. Dunno the cost, mine's not there yet.

The 600 series SKB/Ithaca shotguns are keepers. Fix yours and use it for another 40 years....

Thanks for the reply. I have not purchased this one yet but my local smith quoted me $250 to re tighten the gun. I guess I will have to think about this some more.

What are they asking for the gun? It still may be worthwhile.

For $250, I'd want all new springs and such.

Typically, retightening involves replacing all of the springs (might as well have them do the firing pins and spring as well)

If it needs new hinge pin or trunions, that is an altogether different baby and will be expensive
