Hi folks. I have a question:
I came across a J C Higgins Model 20-12 GA pump shotgun locally and bought it for $75. It has a "583.56" stamped on the barrel. Not being a shotgun person, I need some info. When I rack the thing, the next shell is held in the magazine tube by a smallish tab on the left side of the tube. This tab is the inside part of a toggling lever which is on the outside left of the receiver. The lever has two positions, marked "on" and "off." It looks to me like this tab on the side of the tube should be pushed to the side by the cradle-thing that lifts up the shell to the barrel. Is something broken or am I using the gun incorrectly? Is there a proper combination of safety position and on/off toggle to make this thing chamber a shell? I haven't gone out to the woods yet with it to experiment; I've only looked at it in my house. When it didn't do what I expected, I put it down as I make it a practice to avoid blowing giant holes in my ceiling. Thanks for any info!

Whoa there, that is a Hi Standard model 200. I would go to Numrich and look for the part.
