Hello Everyone,
Has anyone on the board ever attended Lethal Force Institute's Advanced Handgun Skills Class?
It is described as...
"Designed and taught by LFI Staff Instructors Bob Houzenga and Andy Kemp, this two day course is fast paced and demanding, focusing on high speed drills designed to build the optimum blend of speed and accuracy. Ideal for the shooter who wishes to hone and fine-tune his techniques. Emphasis on individual diagnostics and the subtle nuances used by 6x National Champion, Bob Houzenga. From fast and furious, up close shooting, to accuracy work at 50 yards, this program offers students of any skill level, an opportunity to take their skills to the next level. Recoil management for super-fast follow up shots, rapid first shots from the holster, swift engagement of multiple targets, strong and weak hand only, "catching the link", and shooting "out of the notch" are just some of the topics covered. Many students find their speed doubles or triples with better accuracy. 1000 rounds minimum. Prior formal instruction is a pre-requisite."
The guns I am considering taking to class are as follows:
Colt Lightweight Commander in .45 ACP (customized for CCW by C&S)
Colt Python in .357 Magnum (lightly customized for CCW)
Glock 20 in 10mm Automatic (stock)
Kahr K-40 in .40 S&W (lightly customized for CCW)
Ruger GP-100 in .357 Magnum (customized for CCW)
Ruger P-90 in .45 ACP (stock)
It is taught by Bob Houzenga and Andy Kemp. As I have trained with both of them in my LFI-I class I know what to expect from them and look forward to the class. What I am looking for is a bit of guidance on handgun choice for the class. Since I live in the Dallas, Texas area my carry guns vary widely with the wide range of seasons we experience down here. I carry both revolvers and autos.
Several years ago at LFI-I I carried a Magnaported S&W M-57 .41 Magnum with a three inch barrel. After two days and 500 rounds of 170-grain JHPs at 1200 fps, me and my hand do not wish to repeat the experience with 1000 plus rounds.
Given the nature of the class do you think there would be any disadvantage to bringing a revolver to the class?
If your choice would be a semiautomatic pistol, would you strongly prefer a high capacity one?
This and any additional tips or input would be greatly appreciated.
I want to get the most out of this class as possible.
Thanks for the help.
