Hi there, Happy President's Day(or as some areas call it; George Washington Day).

I was wondering what states/cities/etc around the USA allow sworn LEOs(police) to know if you hold a valid concealed carry license/permit by checking your DL and/or motor vehicle license plate(tag) I had heard that Florida LEOs can get this information when they make traffic stops or field interviews. Do any THR.org members know what law enforcement database or program has this information or does it go state by state.

I do not take issue with this system and can understand why LEOs would want it but I'd like to know where in the US can police officers/state troopers/MPs/etc do it.

Thanks for playing...

ive herd that about FL also, i dont know if its true or not. State law doesnt make it manditory to tell the officer you have a weapon if you get pulled over.

i was pulled over a couple months ago and he didnt say anything about firearms or weapons in my truck so who knows. i find it a little far fetched but who knows :D

public information in NC

In NC, any DMV check of your car's plate or your license will reveal your permit.

Also, the list of who has a permit is public, available for the asking. I'm trying to find out who to ask.

Here in Michigan, as soon as the po-po man runs either your license plate OR your DL number, through the LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) computers, the officer will IMMEDIATELY know you have a permit to carry, (assuming you HAVE a permit)

OHIO sure does. license or plates.funny thing, for some reason its important to know who is LEGALLY carrying. ofcourse theres no way to know who is carrying illegally.

During testimony in one of the Carolinas in a public hearing about instituting a CHL law, a Highway Patrol lieutenant spoke in favor of CHL. Among his comments was, "That way, we can tell who the good guys are," referring to traffic stops.

In NV it comes up on the officer's check (I was told this by a Metro officer and neighbor) so even though we don't have to tell them we have a CCW it's kinda pointless not to.
