I used to have an FFL - way back in the early-80s. Don't want another one, but I was wondering about the "C & R" license...

I mostly collect "old stuff". What does curio & relic cover? What's the boundary for what is called a "relic"? wwII? or older than that?

Some items I am looking at say "C&R" license required...

The way I understand it, there are two aspects to what constitutes a "C&R" firearm.

1. The gun is over 50 years old (the gun itself, not the design. An 1973 Winchester produced by Uberti in 2003 is not C&R eligible).

2. The gun is on the C&R list published by the BATF/E.

Either/or will work. NFA items still require the tax stamp/paperwork; I'm not sure if they have to be sent through a Title 2/Class 3 dealer.

It seems like there has definitely been an upsurge in C&R questions here.

As others said, a search will turn up a link to the ATF site, but some examples of what is currently available and plentiful for C&R holders:
Yugoslavian 59/66 SKS
Swiss K31
Mosin-Nagant rifle (numerous variants)
Enfield rifles
CZ-52 pistol
Nagant revolver

Theres a wide array of C&R guns, it's just that those I listed are the ones that seem to have large supplies available, and as such can be purchased with just a phone call, sometimes for precious little cash (a shooter grade SKS or a M-N can be had for under $100, ditto the Nagant revolver). Supplies tend to vary though- the K31 supply is beginning to dwindle, so I recommend that C&R people start there just to be sure you get one (when the supply runs out, the price will very likely rise- it's a heckuva rifle).

Sounds like something I want.

I just found this THR site recently, sorry about posting something that's been asked before.

I think there should be a C&R forum here. 95% of my gun interest is stuff like 1903's, Garands, Mausers, Krags, Enfields, lugers, P-38s, M-Ns, blah blah...

The C& R is a wonderful thing. Walked into a shop yesterday, picked up a Nagant M44 carbine, gave the clerk a copy of my license and some cash, walked out. No NICS check, no 4473 form.

The only downside is that it makes it even easier to spend money on my hobby!
