Life term for killing teen who walked on lawn

What??? No Hank HIll references?
The guy deserves more. Just proof that many a jurror are unable to think critically. The kid did not deserve to get shot for WALKING ON THE GRASS. Mr. Martin seems nutts and will probably enjoy the very scheduled, mundane life of prison (with the occational excitement at shower time). I doubt he loaded his gun and laid in wait to shoot at first sight. I wonder if the guy had the shotgun to scare the kid and the kid provoked him, pushed the right button or he had a short fuse...something like this I imagine;

Mr. Martin, "I told to to stay off my lawn!!!!!" ca-chunk
Larry, "you don't have the guts to shoot me old man!"
Mr. Martin BANG "Oh no, what have I done!" calls cops

Just a thought-I know how a lot of teenage kids are so a confrontation like this would not surprise me.

Great system, huh? Nutcase flips out and kills a young and stupid kid. Nutcase is convicted of lesser murder and heads to the big house for hopefully the rest of his life.

Any word from the kid's parents on how they feel about being taxed to continue the life of the idiot who killed their kid?

If the state insists on putting murderers in prison instead of executing them, it ought to have the common courtesy of exempting the victims family from taxation while the perp is in prison.

Okay, here's my view. That's pretty stupid of the guy shooting a kid for steping on his lawn. This guy give all of the responsible gun owners a black eye because he's using a "hunter's weapon" to kill someone. The junk bag deserves to rot in prison. I don't care if he's 16 or 60, shooting someone because they F up your lawn is moronic.

That said, he used a .410. And all of you said a .410 is a :cuss: defensive round...

This is sad. There is something wrong here, that an adult man can't deal with a teenager without using a gun.

My lawn is like a putting green. It takes a lot of work (by me but mostly from my landscape company :D). In the summer the kids play ball in the street and run across my lawn. In the winter they slide on it with their saucers if we get a little ice or snow.

I love it! It's the freakin ground for godsake!

niner4tango: When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. It's a crappy way to put it, but the guy, for whatever reason had limited ways to handle this situation. Who knows what he's thinking, but obviously he wasn't in his right mind (or no offense to his family, but his right mind was wrong.)

This is from his diary:

Oct. 21, 2003: Little Larry is cutting the grass as they were cutting the strip between our property line. He and his mother were talking very loudly and shaking their heads as they (looked) over at me on my back porch. They were acting as if I had done something to their property. After they were done, I went out and looked at the property lines. I have not cut on their property. Anita is watching two girls and a boy after school from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. This whole thing could be a ploy for the kids to be able to come into my yard. Their behavior makes very little sense to me.

***?!

This guy was nuts.
He watches property lines, measures how many inches (19) were killed by too much roundup, and KNOWS THE LIFE SCHEDULES OF THE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR!
Makes Michael Jackson look normal.

Not to get off topic, there is a huge difference between using a gun in a defensive manner vs. an offensive manner. A .22 pistol is a very bad choice for a defense pistol, however if you're going to lie in wait and ambush an unarmed person that .22 pistol is plenty. The person using a gun offensivly has a huge advantage over the person using a gun defensively.

There is no question that this guy was wrong in killing the kid.

However, I think that most of the blame lies with the kid for messing with the guy to the point of pushing him over the limit. I think jail time for the guy is wrong and that he should get medical assistance. If John Hinkley did not go to jail for shooting Reagan and received medical assistance then so should this guy.

Yeah, if this would have been me, my dad would have lit me up nine ways to Sunday. A red butt beats shotgun rounds to the chest.

Looks like Darwin at work on both sides here.

Seems you are taking my post the wrong way. The guy had no right to kill a 15 year old on his freaking lawn. If he killed MY 15 year old for being on his lawn it would have been the worst mistake of his life. He would have pleaded for DEATH when I was done with him.

Note: not blood lust just justice IMHO.

Wow this should become LAW!!! Thanks

This is simply indicative of a mentally ill person lashing out. These types of things are extremely complex and make mandating laws difficult. I'm sure the jury made it a lesser murder charge due to his age and mental instability (which can exempt them from apparent premeditation, since they're crazy)...the law is very weird sometimes and it's better for the prosecutor to go for a charge in which all the phases of the law will be satisfied and there's no chance of losing the conviction because they couldn't satisfy all the terms for a slightly more severe charge.

The man overreacted.

However.

The kid shouldn't have been repeatedly walking on the guy's lawn.

He got killed for his transgression.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but he played with fire, and got burned. I certainly wouldn't risk my life over something as trivial as walking across a well-maintained lawn. Why this kid did, I have no idea.

Bottom line is, the kid didn't live to learn from his mistake, which is a far greater tragedy than some footprints on a lawn. The guy deserves to be locked up for the rest of his natural life, or be put to death.

Now he can worry about his lawn from prison. If he cared that much for his grass maybe they should have added to his punishment by making him watch as they bulldozed his precious lawn.

Whether the kid provoked it or not, you don't kill someone over a lawn, its people like this that give us respectable gun owners a bad name.:cuss::fire::mad:
