I guess we all should have asked just how light you want to go fist :D

While I had fun building and enjoy shooting my 4.6# featherweight, this critter is only 6-1/2 empty (with sights and RDS):

Could shave a half pound by swapping out the medium contour barrel, too, but it balances fine and shoots well, so why?

MachIV, you've got your sights on backwards.

Honestly, when it comes to building a light weight AR, if the barrel is the only specifically light weight component you buy, you're doing pretty good. Just going from gov't profile to pencil profile makes all the difference in the world when it comes to handling. Also, most of the slim profile free float handguards are going to be adequately light. The BCM KMR-A is my favorite, and they are in the $150 range. Just don't put a boat anchor quad rail on it and you'll be fine.
