First Let me say I Love adjustable Poly Chokes for hunting. Nothing Like haveing five Chokes at your finger Tips. When it comes to Looks I say Pretty is as Pretty Does. Recently Purchaced a 1952 Ithaca Model 37 with a Vented Poly choke on it. I beleive it to be factory installed and I understand back then you could order a gun from Ithaca with a Pollychoke installed. Also own a 1947 model 37 modifed choked barrel as well. These Guns do have a reputation for being hard kickers. They are Light weight pumps and most hunters don't care to much about the recoil as they don't get shot that much and they feel the Lighter weight, Bottom eject, and quick handling of these guns is a good trade off for the Higher recoil. Just My opinion. Having said that It was an Opertunity to do a actual Heads up Apples to apples Pattern Board testing. Both guns were Shot with the same 1 oz number 8s 1200 fps loads. First Off both guns patterned well in center of bead. Was Very happy with both and the polly proved to be more than adequite with cosistant patterns thru all of the different setting with very few flyers. The biggest Differance I Notice was how much felt recoil reduction I seemed to have with the Vented Poly Choke. I have really not considered the 37 much for Trap and Skeet because of the recoil factor. Mind You as far as Trap and Skeet I shoot Autos. But I am thinking with the Right Loads The Vented Poly Choked Barrel might be a lot of Fun for target. Not to mention the fact thatyou can do whatever you want without tubes and wrenches. or Changing Barrel. Having more Fun with the 37s everyday. Just wondered what other people Think about vented Poly chokes or even the Old Cuts compensator.
