This happened less than an hour ago in Colorado Springs CO:

http://www.kktv.com/
11 News has confirmed a liquor store owner in Colorado Springs has shot a man who was reportedly trying to rob the store. The store is located on Jetwing Drive near the intersection of East Fountain Blvd and Powers. 11 News has a crew on the way to the scene. Stay with KKTV.com and 11 News for the latest.
The alleged robber is enroute to the hospital in an ambulance with a police escort.

Likely a Ft. Carson solider needing a little tide me over to pay day money.

Just how do you draw that conclusion based on the information presented? Given that CS has more than 360,000 people, why would you assume it was a soldier versus any of the residents?

Because of the 5 years I lived their. Stationed at Ft carson as a MP . and the time I spent working with Manitou PD So I will assume hasn't changed all that much . But lets wait for more info.. its 50/50 chance.

Just so he can give up his accomplices before he dies.

he's dead huh?

I hope he has learned his lesson and doesn't try that stunt again.:evil:

I wish it said this
The alleged robber is enroute to the hospital in the back of a dirty pick up with a liquor store worker escort

Well since you were an MP and all, then I would have guessed that you would have reserved judgment on who might have done the robbery until there was more info. I take it that given your experiences there and all that you are also assuming the current crime wave CS is in is all probably due to soldiers? Their robbery rate in November is double the norm.

Sorry, it just seems overly far-fetched to suggest that a given liquor store robbery was committed by a soldier when there is absolutely no information thusfar to indicate the robber was a soldier. Colorado Springs has a pretty good crime problem and occasionally soldiers are involved, but they are not the most common perpetrators of crime there.

From the article:

"During the course of this year, we average 25-30 robberies a month, but now, that's how much we've had in the past 2 weeks," said Detective Don Chagnon with Springs Police. In November there have been close to having 60 robberies. Detective Chagnon said he doesn’t know why robberies are increasing.

Just more reinforcement as to why I need to carry everyday, and everywhere it's legal.

I sure hate to see people make snap judgments (or remarks) when they don't have all the evidence (or know what they are talking about). Especially when there is the possibility that it involves a member of their own service or former service.

Hi MICHAEL T

It's Tommy this and Tommy that and Tommy how's your soul.

Selena

Nice, Selena.

TOMMY
by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

Hi Robert,

Perhaps more apros would have been 'single men in barricks don't grow to plaster saints.' Blindly assuming some enlisted was responsible without evidence is a form of bigotry no matter how you look at it.

As for the quote it's one of the drawbacks of being homeschooled I'm afraid. Dad can quote nearly every work of Kipling verbatum and often does. Tommy, unfortunately, is one of his favorites.

Along with:

When 'alf of your bullets fly wide in the ditch
Don't call your Martini a cross eyed old ...
Remember she's 'uman an treat 'er as such
And she'll fight for the young British soldier.

Selena

They did not arrest the 72 year old shooter pending the out come of the investigation.

What was it about 3 or 4 years ago a group of soldiers from here robbed the mcdonalds in security, CO and got caught. Dumb.

Selena's a little too high brow for me apparently. It took me awhile. Thanks, Robert for the cite to remind me.

Re the OP, death in that circumstance is never a good ending, but it is a part of life, and sometimes we choose our way out. I feel for the guy that shot him.

Kipling

*Sigh*

Aye, that man be one o' my favorites.

Arrr. That 'e are.

Aye.

(Oy 'aven't been back there in a few yairs, but Oy remember . . . yas Oy does . . .)

Hi 1911Tuner

Blanket statements about the enlisted of any branch of service is a form of bigotry!

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
