I read about the new ones but stick with the old tried and true. Did cave in and get a 17HMR a few years back and do enjoy it.

Wow. I wish I could pick even one 'NEW' one, but I guess I'm old school.
I think the newest cartridge I shoot debuted in the 1950's. The oldest dates to the 1870s...
Nothing against the new kids. In fact, I'm interested in the 260Rem. Enough to want a rifle chambered for it, assuming the wife doesn't mind.

I realize that some of you are happy
to stick with your old 30-30 or your '06 and that is fine. That is not what this post was supposed to be about. There have been a wagon load of new "RIFLE" cartridges introduced over the past ten years or so and I wanted to get a feel for what you guys thought was the best of them. I know some of you have no need for a 20 caliber varmint round but some of us LOVE the 204 Ruger for several different reasons. I like it because it is ACCURATE!!! Until a few years ago the 22LR was the king of the hill when it came to rimfires but the new 17s have really raised the bar for speed and accuracy. I have not yet had the chance to shoot the 6.5x284 but ever since I owned my 6.5x 55 Swede I love the idea of any 6.5 caliber. Yes, you have to call it 6.5 not 260.
I am hoping to buy one of the new Savage rifles in this caliber befor the year is up. Everything I have heard about this cartridge is good.
