Little Girl's Blade

You never know what to expect when you ask a 10 year old girl what kind of knife she wants.

This was one of my early test designs, hollow ground in W2. My daughter decided she would like it, and I let her pick out a color and handle material.

She settled on black GunKote, Black and Toxic Green G10 laminate handles, and domed stainless pins. Ooookay, whatever you want, gal!

At least the exaggerated guard spur should keep her fingers off of the edge!

Hey thanks guys! The "L" is her initial. Cut the stencil out of a piece of packing tape. Unfortunately, everyone else around here has initials with loops and such. Not going to be so easy to get those to look right carved out of tape.

I might make some more of something like this someday, though this was sort of a test mule design that evolved on the grinder as I was playing with concepts.

I am planning to finish up a few of the "MK1" blades this evolved out of, later this winter. Hopefully I'll put them up for sale here when I'm done.

Ha ha...well. See I had a can of gloss purple Gun Kote all ready for this project, and maybe some white G-10 handles. Figured that would be all girly. She was very polite when she rather directly realigned my plans to what she REALLY wanted.

Still I want a 3" Mirror polish Pocket Bowie with a slim inside pocket clip rig and a handle that just barely pokes out into plain view and I can pull out with a pinch grip . I have a deposit.

Ahhh, yes. Gotta get back into the small pocket blades soon! I know I've been asked several times for a mini-bowie and I think I could make a good one. Just got to clear the current pile off the bench!

I'll be thrilled to teach all the brood anything they're interested in learning. But I'm a long way from being a teacher at this point. I'm still taking my early steps on the journey.

I normally just admire the workmanship but dont 'really' want any of the ones shown here. THR 10 yr anniversary knife is the same with. Its neat but...


However.... I really like that one. I like the 'understated-ness' of it.

How long is it?

And... roughly speaking, how much would something like that cost?

It is exactly 8-1/2" long, blade is 7/8" at the base and that guard spur makes the max width about 1-1/4".

Adding up the optional bits (G-10 coating, colored G-10 handles) I'd probably put something like this up for sale at about $90.

Only a few phrases so far. But she uses some of them conversationally because her brothers know them from movie context.

[/GEEK]Technically, that sword makes its appearance in The Hobbit as one of two ancient elvish blades found in a Troll cave and carried from thenceforth by Thorin Okenshield in his battle to reclaim the lonely mountain from Smaug the dragon. (Orchist aka "the Goblin Cleaver.")

The other sword found at the same time is called Glamdring (The Foe Hammer) claimed by Gandalf the wizard and carried throughout the rest of the Hobbit and LOTR. You might have been thinking of that one.
